I wonder if it would be helpful for those whose family members are resistant to acknowledging the seriousness and requirements of the disease to draft a letter for your own doctor to sign that gives a concise description of the illness. You can explain to your doctor that you need it for restaurants and other situations to convey the seriousness of the problem...

  4. I believe that something besides gluten is causing my continuing problems with fatigue and headaches. My bowel symptoms are extremely improved and I think I can detect a gluten accident by relapses in that department.   6. nthei, You have probably already come across this advice, but be sure NOT to go gluten-free prior to your biopsy as that may influence the results. Many of the gluten-free grocery sites (some advertise here and you can do a search) sell energy bars that are good. My favorite is the Bumble bars. Good luck and welcome!
  7. My understanding is that the stool tests done at Enterolab are more accurate than the blood tests as they measure antibodies in the intestinal tract before they become elevated in the blood stream. They also do a family discount for multiple tests. Definitely worth looking into.

  9. I bought some very tasty cashew brittle for a snack treat and despite its label of "gluten-free", it has rice malt in it. Hmmmmm! I know I've been reacting to something--could this be it? Got to ALWAYS read those labels. Whole foods are looking better and better.....
  10. You might have a sensitivity to lectins, another potentially problematic protein found in most grains. Do a search on this and maybe on the "paleolithic diet" or the "caveman diet" which it sounds like you're already starting to follow. Info on "inflammation" also makes reference to lectins. I'm starting to wonder about myself along these lines...
