  1. I've had shortness of breath for quite a while (was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago with celiac) and also wonder if it's connected. This disease has so many manifestations that I wouldn't be a bit surprised! When the body can't absorb nutrients, all bets are off as far as your health is concerned. My main symptoms have been steadily increasing fatigue,...

    ARCHIVED Dietitian

Can anyone recommend a dietitian in my area familiar with celiac disease? Thanks very much for your time and trouble in replying.
  3. Addressing Soul04 in particular: I work in psychiatric research and also take a low dose of Prozac and am a great believer in psychotropic medications. I checked with my pharmacy to ensure the medication is gluten free. I know there are lots of people who prefer not to take psychotropic meds but as time goes on, their effectiveness continues to be proven...
  4. Bessie, regarding your medications, I would suggest calling your pharmacy and explaining you have a gluten allergy and asking them to investigate whether or not there is gluten in them. Good luck!
  5. Following a colonoscopy, I was told to get more fiber because of diverticulosis and hemorrhoids. I know it can be difficult when you have celiac disease to get enough fiber. Aside from food, are there supplements that can be taken that are safe? Thanks for you time and trouble in replying!
  6. Regarding that negative gluten allergy test--sometimes tests are done incorrectly or interpreted incorrectly. Sometimes we think of them as gospel but errors can be common. Just my $.02.
  7. Sarah, Thanks so much for your informed response. My intrinsic factor was OK, according to my doctor. Since the b12 problem was discovered, first I received monthly shots (1000mcg) and now I'm taking the sublingual form (1000mcg daily) of the supplement to bypass my battle-weary digestive track. My B12 levels are good now and I've used both methyl...
  8. I wonder if all the different symptoms related to WHICH part of the small intestine is damaged. Perhaps different sections absorb different nutrients and that is a factor. My primary debilitating symptom was ever-increasing fatigue. A blood test showed B12 deficiency (but not iron deficiency) and I understand B12 is absorbed in the lower intestine (ileum...
  9. Hello Antigluten, Thanks for posting this as it very accurately expresses the frustration that goes with this disease. It seems like it's 2 steps forward, 3 back, 5 forward, 4 back, etc. etc. Maddening! I was officially diagnosed one week ago and immediately recognized it as good-news-bad-news! Good because I finally know the source of my years...
  10. Are there any distributors of guaranteed gliadin-free vitamins, etc.? Thanks for your time and effort in replying!
  11. Count me in! Thanks for the easy format. It took just minutes to email each of my representatives on this topic vital to all of us.
  12. Lee, have you considered a sleep study to check for apnea or periodic leg movements? If you snore and periodically stop breathing while sleeping, apnea is a good hypothesis. Definitely read up on sleep disorders as you may have a condition besides celiac that is causing this symptom. Good luck!
  13. Hello! I'm newly diagnosed and just venturing into avid label reading as I'm sure all of you are familiar with! Is maltodextrin a no-no? Also, where can I find a good, concise (?) list of all the celiac "poisons" including these more obscure ones? Thanks SO much for your time and trouble in replying!
