  1. Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. It's the American Red Cross, they should be able to tell you. Lily
  2. Per my nutritionists advice, I am only eating what I can cook.........no processed stuff and I'm starting to lose weight also. I'm not better yet, but working on it. Good luck all! Lily
  3. Lori, It is definitely a possibility. I suffered as young child all the way until I was in my 30's from constipation. So severe at the age of 12 I had my first colonoscopy. (To this day I still can't stand mineral oil or cooked spinach - they made me eat lots of it! ick). It wasn't until I turned 34 that I started with the diarrhea and finally diagnosed...
  4. Eliana, I want to make sure I understand your post. Did you say that Rice Dream is gluten free? The Rice Dream I was looking at the health food store yesterday is NOT gluten free, it has malted barley in it. I'm not sure I understood right, but just to be sure I wanted to mention it so your little one doesn't get sick from it. Blessings, Lily
  5. Kyle, The symptoms you describe sounds very much like Celiac Disease. Have them test you for the antigliaden antibodies and they can give you a biopsy in your small intestine to confirm. If you are currently wheat free though, this will skew your test results and be difficult to diagnose. I think reading around this site has probably confirmed what you...
  6. Hi Diane, If your son's villi haven't healed up then he IS lactose intolerant. The ends of the villi produce the enzyme that digests the dairy. If the ends of those villi are damaged then dairy is a no-no. If he still has problems after eliminating dairy, it's possible that he can't handle casein. Blessings, Lily
  7. I use Tyler plant enzymes, they are gluten free.
  8. Highflyer, My main complaint for years has been mucle pain, joint aches. It got so bad after I had my daughter that I couldn't pick her up. I saw a new dr. yesterday who tells me that these are classic symptoms of celiac disease! I can't tolerate dairy right now, I'm in the process of healing up, but the dr. said there is the possibility that I may...
  9. Mariann, I am having the same problems. Each time I go gluten free, it seems I am more sensitive than the next time. I saw a new dr. yesterday who told me it can take up to 3 weeks to heal from a single gluten accident. Since I have been totally gluten free for only a week now (boring bland diet, I know!) I'm hoping he's right and I'll feel better soon...
  10. Dairy could definitely be a problem. I thought I was doing so well being gluten free but I was still sick! I never knew about the dairy until then. Once everything heals up, I'm hoping to add dairy back into my diet. Good luck! Lily
  11. I know how difficult it must be to watch your child go through this. I had the biopsy last month and I slept peacefully and didn't even know they had done the procedure. You'll be in my prayers. If she has Celiac, at least you'll finally know what it is and head in the direction of wellness Lily
  12. My nutritionist specializes in Celiac Disease and Cook Right 4 Your Type is the first book she recommended I buy. Get rid of the wheat of course, but she said this is the way to optimum health. Lily
  13. I've noticed New York seems to be very gluten friendly, wish I lived there! Anyhow, there was a post on here somewhere else that said to visit www.glutenfreerestaurants.org. I went there and the majority of the restaurants were in New York. Lily
  14. The bottle I bought says it's specifically gluten free and it's very good. I bought it at a health food store. Lily
  15. The following are supplement brands I'm using right now with my nutritionist's advice. I feel very good while taking them. Tyler Products Metagenics Products Oregon Health KTS Liquid Minerals Also, I'm using a Jarrow brand of Silymarin (milk thistle) right now and it is gluten free as well. Good luck, Lily
  16. Sylvia, The American Red Cross will let you donate your own blood for your surgery, it's called Autologos (awww tall o gus). If you have a Red Cross close to you call them for details. You may also call 1-800-Give-Life to speak to their headquarters. Just a thought. Blessings, Lily
  17. With the help of a nutritionist I am starting an allergy elimination diet. Citrus and tomatoes are on my list to not partake in until the end of the diet. I add new things in every other day to see if they bother me. I have to try the fresh version first (nothing canned) and see where the sensitivies lie. I hope you figure out what's bothering you....

    ARCHIVED "castaway"

I found a great nutritionist as well and feel this will finally be my year to be healthy - a definite novelty. Cheers to us all Lily
  19. I wonder if all doctor's agree about calcium supplements and kidney stones? I hesitate to trust them because it took them 35 years and 20 different doctors to finally figure out I'm a celiac. Thanks for the info though, I'll check into it. Lily
  20. Pat, I was gluten free (mostly) for 2-3 months and my blood test still showed a weak positive. They put me back on wheat for 3 weeks and tested me again and it was a strong positive. You still have enough in your system to show if you are sensitive. Having the positive blood tests will be proof enough I think to help you stay gluten free. Once I was...
  21. My endoscopic procedure was about $2500, which I'm assuming is inflated because they know I have insurance.
  22. My doctor was able to tell with a simple blood test checking for the antigliaden antibodies. The first doctor wouldn't check it, but the 2nd one finally did and it came back positive. I don't know how much it would cost without health insurance though. You'll be in my prayers. Lily
  23. Mariann, your son will be in my prayers Lily
  24. I dropped the wine and General Mills coffees off my diet and my heart palpitations calmed down after about a week, so did my headache. Try to stay completely gluten free for at least 10 days and add new things in every 2 days.......only 1 at a time so you know what is bothering you. Good luck! Lily
  25. Braggs Liquid aminos come highly recommended from my nutritionist. I've also started using a wheat free soy sauce (tamari) and it's very good.
