ARCHIVED Navigating gluten-free And Casein Free
teacher1578 replied to teacher1578's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for the advice. I am still deciding if I want to go that route because I love yogurt. Also, what to use instead of butter and cheese? I also dont know if casein is really the reason I dont feel well. I was diagnosed 11/05, not 11/04. So I still dont feel well even eliminating gluten. Just trying to figure it all out. -

I was Dx 11/04. Now thinking I need to avoid dairy. I am trying to educate myself about dairy free and casein free. I am a bit confused. Any advice would be much appreciated. For example, brands to eat, what to look out for, are eggs okay? Thanks again! ---Jessica -

Hi. I know certain kinds of alcohols are permitted. Does anyone know if the Dekuyper brands (flavors) used in Martinis for example are allowed? I have just been sticking to Khalua and white wine. Also, gin is okay, right? Thanks so much! -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Orange Juice
teacher1578 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi. Does anyone know which orange juice brands are gluten-free? I know Tropicana is iffy and I read Minute Maid (all of them) is okay. Does anyone know if "Tree Ripe" or "Florida's Natural" is gluten-free? Much appreciated. I used to be a BIG orange juice drinker, but have been avoiding it if it is not Minute Maid. Jessica -

That is good to know about Shop Rite. I too live near a Wegmans in NJ. I am also not that far from Edison/Shop Rite, but wasn't too happy with their gluten-free section. Maybe I will go back and look again, and also check out their gluten-free frozen section. -

You said it - CONVENIENCE. I was diagnosed 11/3/05 and am still not used to being inconvenienced. Yes, I wake up early and think about where I am going and what I am doing and how much food should accompany me -
Hi. Can anyone recommend what to eat and/or where to eat for New Year's Eve? It is my first New Year's as gluten-free. I am concerned because most restaurants (in Brooklyn, NY) have limited menus and I do not know if they would have something I can eat. I want to go where I can eat gluten-free and where my friends and family can eat 'typical' items. I want...

I was diagnosed in early Nov. I managed to get through Thanksgiving. Now, I am thinking about gluten-free items to cook for Chanukah. Also, on the holiday topic - how do you handle eating out for New YEar's Eve if not a specific gluten-free restaurant? Thanks! Happy Holidays! Jessica -
ARCHIVED Our First Gf Thanksgiving

My first gluten-free Thanksgiving? What can I eat at the table, without making something specifically gluten-free? Anything? Much appreciated.... -
Hi. I am newly diagnosed within the past week. What do you do if a spouse is unsupportive? He seems to think cross-contamination is not possible (by the way, does it affect everyone?). He also seems to think I am overexaggerating and I am blowing it out of proportion. We have fought so much this past week. Needless to say I am hungry and tired and depressed...

Hi. New to celiac disease. What in the world can you eat in a diner? This cross-contamination is scary. I don't eat out too often, but I know I am already frustrated at limited options, especially with a spouse that likes to go out to eat.
