ARCHIVED Is Splenda Making You Sick?
chaddwell replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I for one don't use artificial sweeteners but I have heard, celiac aside, that it has bothered people in different ways. Could be an allergy or sensitivity?? Have you tried Stevia? I don't know if that would make a difference but I've heard good things about it. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Rice Malt?
chaddwell replied to traveljunkie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Since barley has a high enzyme content it makes it commonly used and it (barley enzymes) could have been added to the "crunch" because malted rice does not convert it's own starch (into sugars) as fully as barley does. From my experience Rice Dream Rice Milk contains a very small amount of barley enzymes and it lists that in the ingredients. It is not gluten... -
I don't have an answer but thought it was an interesting question. I'd like to know myself!

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Rice Malt?
chaddwell replied to traveljunkie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, My two year old is allergic to barley and I have to be careful with things that say rice milk, rice malt, or just malt because it can contain barley, especially something that just says malt. Most malt is from barley. So be careful with anything that says malt, malt flavoring, rice malt, and even rice milk! I saw a brand of rice milk with barley... -
Hello All, I made an appointment the other day with a new GI doctor. It's on Monday the 12th. I am excited. God knows why. I've been let down before When I called the office my first question was do the doctors deal with celiac disease? She had no idea what I was talking about but she put me on hold to check and she said yes they do. I said...

Hi Moongirl, In regards to your question about what I was doing or thinking when I had the closing/can't breath feeling...I had just laid down in bed, probably not more than five minutes went by and I had that. I wasn't thinking about much either. Just trying to get comfy It probably was anxiety related. On several occasions, again while trying... -

Thanks for the info Cindy. I have read about zinc in the past and thought maybe that was an issue for me but have never been checked. I always get the brush off when I mention vitamin/mineral deficiecies. I get the look like, no, that's not your problem, I don't know what it is but that's not it!! I know docs aren't perfect but it bugs me that if... -

I also have a few gray hairs! I noticed several years ago that my hair color seemed to get more red in it or something. I had several people ask if I dyed my hair. But I never have... My thyroid has been checked countless times and each time is normal. How is Grave's diagnosed? Is that through the standard thyroid testing like TSH, T3, T4, etc? Or... -

Welcome! I am fairly new myself. I'll give my input but hopefully some others with more knowledge will chime in. I am going to agree with what you said about the possibility of her being IgA deficient. Did she also have a total serum IgA done with the other tests? That will measure whether or not she has a normal amount of antibodies. She should... -

Thanks for the reply Jerseyangel! I am 29 so maybe I'll get lucky and grow hair back. It would be nice to feel good about myself again. It's amazing how your whole body chemistry can change from celiac. I am not sure if that is my problem or not but it's the direction I'm going in now. I don't know how fast or soon changes can be seen with hair growing... -

Rachel, I noticed we shared some symptoms including hair loss. Did you notice it coming back in since going gluten-free? I guess I'm looking for hope that maybe my hair will thicken up a bit and my hairline will fill out! My hair has been thinning for about 8 years. At least that is when I noticed it. If anyone else has input about the hair... -
ARCHIVED Getting Nervous
chaddwell replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Lovetoeat, As mentioned, I never had a colonoscopy but I have had a barium enema done before where I had to clean myself out the night before and I myself thought I'd be going to work the next morning but that didn't happen. I went to the bathroom most of the night and into the morning and didn't get much sleep, just didn't feel great. I didn't... -
ARCHIVED Getting Nervous
chaddwell replied to lovetoeat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good luck on Tuesday. I have not had a colonoscopy but I have had an endoscopy. The only thing I remember is laying on my side and the doctor directing me to swallow! I don't remember anything after that and didn't have any pain. Being scared is a natural and normal reaction. But with sedation you should be fine and won't remember or feel anything... -

Thanks for the reply. I have checked out some of the labs online and the tests are expensive. If I had the money to spend I would like to buy a bunch of tests. Is there a section on here that lists websites that sells gluten-free make-up, shampoo, skincare, ect?? I already checked out the glutenfreemall. Thanks again Channon Rachel... -

Hello, Thank you all for the replies. I appreciate it being that my post was so long. Kevsmom, it sounds like you've finally found an answer to your problems. Are you feeling better? I assume you are now gluten free? How long did it take before you noticed changes? I'm sure people don't realize that something like a nose bleed can be dangerous... -
I am new to this and didn't think much about other stuff besides the food aspect so thank you for this information. I found it helpful and I'm sure others will too!

Hi Shirley! Thank you for the reply. I am from the US. I am living in NJ at the moment but from PA. I have wanted to be checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies for a long time but it seems that no one thinks that is the problem. It may show something, it may not but how do we know for sure? I hate when doctors do that. My current insurance is... -

Hi, I am new to this site and here looking for info. I am 29 years old and have had many symptoms for about 8-9 years, probably longer if I count my childhood issues. I am 5'8, approximately 125lbs. I recently found this site through the web while searching for info on Celiac. I am somewhat familiar with Celiac disease because I was tested for it...
