ARCHIVED Scheduled for biopsy...
tooth-whisperer posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, I had my first appointment at the specialist's office on Christmas Eve, and am glad to say I had a really nice PA to sit down with me. Finally, someone who is concerned about my symptoms and agrees that it sounds like more than "just reflux." She ordered some lab work, some of which is still outstanding - so far the only result I have is a slightly... -
ARCHIVED Really confused about having or not celiac, confusing symptoms
tooth-whisperer replied to Frankie13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Frankie, I'm going through a very similar time to you right now. Over the last 3 months I've had stool changes, headaches, stomachaches, and episodes of dizziness and lightheadedness. If your esophagus (throat) hurts when you eat certain foods, you may want to ask your doctor about being checked for eosinophilic esophagitis. It's a reaction to... -
ARCHIVED Specifically bad reaction to malt/maltose?
tooth-whisperer posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi all, Still working on my diagnosis (first GI appt today, excited!), but have a question for you all. I know a lot of celiac a suffer panic attack like symptoms from gluten exposure - dizzy, lightheaded, jittery, anxious, feeling like about to pass out. Obviously I have to be eating gluten right now, most of the time I don't have that kind of reaction... -
ARCHIVED Should I Eat Wheat Until the Gastro Appt?
tooth-whisperer replied to Irie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm in the same boat as you, very new to this and not an expert, but from what I've heard it's usually recommended to keep eating wheat products so that your body is actively reacting when the tests are done. However, your physician and/or the specialist should be consulted for any decisions, as always. You should definitely call and check with the specialists... -
ARCHIVED Dizzy, lightheaded, faint feeling
tooth-whisperer posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi all, I'm back on the big G, week 3 since I was off for a week just as a test, and all my symptoms have visited me like the Ghost of Christmas Past - first mild shooting chest pains and reflux, then head/neck/back aches, AM nausuea, upset stomach from dairy, light brown/sand color... well, you know. One thing I haven't been struggling with is the... -
Well, day 3 back on the G and I'm starting to feel it again. Chest pain, shoulder/back/neck pain, tight esophagus, uneasy stomach. Thankfully, again, all quite mild, but definitely there. I had actually gained a couple pounds! I'm sure they will go away, but it was nice just to see the needle go up. And to be honest I'm a little relieved that I could...

Wondering if anyone would care to share if they had any other foods that cause problems, especially when recovering after diagnosis? I'm not diagnosed, but went gluten-free this last week and felt a ton better from the issues I've been having. But noticed there are still a few things that don't sit well with me. Obviously dairy, but also cola, chocolate...

ARCHIVED This isn't that bad!
tooth-whisperer replied to tooth-whisperer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, I kind of figured it's my time to go a little crazy! Today I informed the partners at my dental practice that if my symptoms get too uncomfortable, I might need to take some time off, and they're understanding folks. One of the things I've been most concerned about is missing work, but we have a few dollars in the bank and I think being able to relax... -

Thank you both for the info. I did in fact go back to eating gluten just tonight, because I am going to talk to my internist about the celiac panel tomorrow, and put myself on the cancellation call list at the GI office to try and get in sooner. I want to get this figured out! If I've been mostly off for 5-6 days, how long do I need to be having gluten... -
Thanks to you both! I bit the bullet and had stir fry with soy sauce and a beer tonight. Probably should still take it easy on the beer, but wow, I am going to miss it if I have celiac disease! I live in Grand Rapids, MI - aka Beer City USA, this will be a cruel, cruel torture for me! Bartfull, my wife has thankfully been more understanding in the...

Thanks again for the advice Cheryl. I just called the GI specialist's office and put myself on their short call/cancellation list, to hopefully get in sooner. The internist at a clinic I work in has kind of taken over my case from my PCP, so I'm going to talk to her tomorrow at work and try to get the blood tests ordered. Hopefully being off gluten for...

Hi all, I'm very early to this, don't even know if I have celiac yet but highly suspicious. Wife and I went to Trader Joe's lastnight and I grabbed up all the gluten-free items I could get my hands on (at least of what we were shopping for). So far the ginger snaps, brown rice and quinoa pasta, and TJ's brand sandwich bread are actually very good!... -
Thanks cyclinglady, I think you replied to me on the healingwell forum too? I really would prefer to get tested and diagnosed, I'm just concerned that the medical "runaround" I'm going to get will be ridiculous to the point of not being worth it. Just getting in to see a specialist is almost comically difficult - thank God I don't have something life threatening...

Thanks to you both! I appreciate the input. Mommida, I've been tested for H. Pylori, which was negative, and had an upper GI series (barium swallow), which confirmed no abnormalities of the esophagus or stomach lining- not sure if it picks up Barrett's though. Cheryl, thanks for the advice. My PCP is a wonderful guy, but I fear he just has no...

Hello all, I'm brand new here, excited to hopefully find some answers about the nightmare I've been having for the last few months. I'm going to give my story, it's a long one so I apologize for that. Any thoughts and help would be so appreciated! I'm a 29 yo male, dentist by trade and in general a very normal, healthy, and happy person. 3 months...
