I have been told from someone that has celiac that you can have no colors with Lakes( I don't even know what the means) particularly Red 40 & blue # 1. My husb was just diagnosed, so i am trying to do the right thing, but I have found nothing to support this "lake" theory.
Do any of you know anything about color lakes and whether they have gluten in them or not?? Thanks again everyone for you help. As soon as my husb was dx i looked for a message board to educate myself. I know I would learn faster here than anywhere.

my mother in law has celiac and she states abolutely no msg. I have been reading hear that some people are ok with it? I am confused. My husb is asymptomatic, so we can't tell by how he feels. What are your thoughts?

I am interested to see if there is a support group near Adams Ma. This is in the Berkshires, in western Ma.

Hi, I am new here. My husb was DX 2 weeks ago with Celiac (his mom has it too) and this board has been very valuable in educating me since I do the shopping and cooking in the family. Well, I took my 8 yr old son in for testing tuesday and the Dr called last night and said that his blood test came back "suspicious" and the antibodies were high. He will confir next week with the Gastroenterologist to see what he thinks. (This is the same Gastroenterologist that my mother in law and husband see). From your experiences with your own kids, do you have an opinion of what high antibodies mean?? Could it be a sign of something else?? He did not tell me what the actual #'s were. Does anyone know of the acceptable levels? My husband has no symptoms of celiac disease, but the Dr has recommends a gluten-free diet to prevent it. My son has no symptoms either, except he bulches frequently. I appreciate any info you can send my way. THANKS!!
Modified Food Starch-all Bad?
in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ok, I am learning more here everyday. If I am understanding correctly, not all modified food starch has gluten in it, is this correct? if the product comes from one of the "trusted companies" than can I rest assured that it is gluten free? If it is from a company that is not trusted, then can I call them and simply inquire if their product contains gluten? This will seriously expand what I can purchase, so I really need to have a proper understanding. Thank you.
