  1. I don't know who you need the probiotic for.

    It is for me. I have tested negative for celiac and MANY other things including dairy. I have had more tests in the last year than I can count.I wanted to try probiodics as I have heard alot of good things about them.

    Since my husband eats a gluten-free diet, I already tried going gluten-free. That did not help at all, so that is why I am willing to give probiodics a try. My Dr has basically said he has no idea what is wrong with me.

  2. My husb has been eating Sami's Bakery poducts and really enjoys them. For the 1st time since going gluten-free, he enjoys a sandwich again. He eats the Millet & Flax bread, wraps, Hamburger and Hot dog rolls and he really loves the Pizza crust. The store cant keep these products in stock, as soon as they are delivered, the shelves are empty!

    Our problem is that we recd an email last week from the CELIAC@LISTSERV.ICORS.ORG stating that these products were not gluten-free. The email was old, Feb 2007, so I dont know why it resurfased, but we are now confused. has any testing been done since 2-07 on these products?

    The product labels do not state that the products are gluten-free, but all of the ingredients listed are gluten-free. So even without a gluten-free label- the ingredients indicate it to be a gluten-free product.

    The listed ingredients for the Millet and Flax bread are:

    Organic Millet Flour, Brown Rice Flour, Water, Aluminum Free Baking Powder, Sea Salt, Organic Grounded Flax Seed .

    If you saw this, would you buy it thnking it to be a safe gluten-free product?

    I need to know if anyone on the board has any information on Sami's Bakery products? My husband feels fine eating them. We would hate to give up using a product that we enjoy if it's not necessary to do so.

    Plus, the cost for these products are much more reasonable, 3.99 a loaf of bread instead of $7 or $8.

    I'd appreciate any guidance you can offer.

  3. I am thinking about buying in bulk.

    Anyone know where we can buy this in bulh at a discounted price? I love this and use it alot. I have resorted to buying most gluten-free items in bulk via the internet, but I have not had any success in finding a site that offers this at a savings. The lowest price I can find is around 2.99. I would be more than willing to buy a few cases at a time if the price is right!!

  4. The Christmas Tree Shop at the Holyoke Mall carries a variety of gluten-free products at bargain prices. For example- Blue Diamond Smokehouse almond nut thins are 2.89 at Wild oats and other such local health food stores, but everytime I go to the Christmas Tree Shops they sell the same thing for $1 a box. I usually buy 10 boxes at a time since its 1 and 1/2 hour drive for me to get there.They also carry alot of Thai items real cheap too. with so much of the gluten-free foods costing alot more money, I will stock up whenever I can!

  5. I am moving in a few weeks outside of cummington/northampton I think. ( I have found a job but not yet gone to get an apartment!) I have family south of boston, so I will probably be through there a lot. I would love to know places to shop, I am so used to being 2 minutes from whole foods that I am a bit nervous! Are there any active support groups in MA?

    I live in Adams ma which is about 1 hour northwest of Northampton. I love NH, there are sooo many shops right on Main st and they even stay open till 9pm or so on a saturday night. We go to our Favorite restaurant"Spilettos" on main st on new years eve and then hit the shops till 9pm when the close.

    There is a Trader Joes and Wholefoods in Hadley Ma.They are on the same street and probably about 1/2 hour from northampton.

    There is also a support group in Pittsfield ma.

  6. Thank you so much for taking the time to post all of this useful information. It must have been wonderful to talk to someone that was so well informed. I am finding that even the local doctors know little about celiac disease.

  7. Have been going through mountains of paperwork :( -- will post all websites on this thread -- she even gave me the website that publishes the criteria for registered dieticians. Will post all tomorrow.

    I made the mistake of signing onto this sight when I was 1st researching celiac disease. It has no free info and only tries to get you to pay for a membership.

    I say skip it.....the free boards like this one is all you need.

  9. I just rcd my sons tests results.

    The form says :

    TITER tTG IgA result "27" Flag "H" Reference 0-19 units

    GLAIDIN AB IgA results" 10" nothing listed under Flag reference 0-19 units

    GLIADIN AB IgG results "32" Flag "H" reference 0-19 units

    test performed at Quest Diagnostice in Cambridge MA

    Can someone explain what all this means and are his numbers high or low. He was DX via his Pediatrician with this test in Dec. He is seeing a PED Gi tomorrow. He has no symptoms at all, I had him tested because my husb was DX in early Dec and his mother also has it.

    His reg Ped did not know much about celiac disease so I am hoping I will feel better with the Ped GI.

  10. Since most of us will not exceed the 7.5% of income to claim our medical expenses, the flexable spending acctount is the way to go. You have to get a letter from the Dr that gluten-free food is medically necessary. Then you can put in a claim for the "extra" you spend on the gluten-free food. Plus the money in the Flex acct in not taxable, so it is a double savings.

    gluten-free bread for example, runs me $7 a loaf. I can buy a loaf of WW bread in the supermarket for aprox $2, so I get $5 back from my card for every loaf of bread I buy!!! Over a years time it really will add up.

    I am very lucky as my company just this year starting "giving" us a flexable spending acct with whatever left over money is from our benefit selections. Since we take my husbands health ins and decline mine, they "give me almost $3,000 a year on a tax free debit card" to be used for nonremibursed med expenses, deds, co-pays etc. These come right off the card. The food expenses need to be sent in paper form and it is alot of work, but well worth it!

    Especially if you buy gluten-free for your whole family, it is a savings you cant beat!!

    my husband is just like you, celiac disease and Diviticulosis. My 1st time in the health food store to buy gluten-free foods, I nearly had a break down. my husband was with me and we were looking at crackers. I had found some gluten-free that I thought he would like but then he told me they contained seeds!!!

    I firmly told him I could only handle 1 ailment at a time! Of course I didnt follow thru with that, but I truelly felt that way at first. Especially when you are dealing with more than 1 dietary restriction, it is very nerve wracking.

    I still find it frustrating, but it does get better with time. This forum helps and I cont to do research everyday....
