  1. Have you had a yeast infection (which is candida) recently? You can pass the yeast infection on to your husband, and even if he doesn't have any symptoms, he can have a yeast infection also, and passes it back to you each time you have sex.

I'd talk to your gynocologist about it and see what they say. It probably needs medical attention. In the meantime, take probiotics or eat yogurt to repopulate good bacteria to fight off the yeast.

  2. Well I already survived one big one so I hope thats it for me in my lifetime. I think it was in '89. It was pretty damn scary. I dont wanna go through anything like that again!

Hmmm...actually I forgot what year it was in but I remember the day Oct. 17th...the Giants were playing the A's in the world series. It was the Battle of the Bay. Were you here then Donna?

Were you in the northridge earthquake in '94? It was one of the many disasters that happen around my birthday <_<

That was January 17th, my b-day is the 16th. The Gulf War started on my birthday too.

For some reason, earthquakes don't scare me like storms. We drilled in cali for earthquakes, we braced. Maybe it's just because I was raised there

Good luck with the storm, Floridian!

  3. Anytime we go to Syracuse, we have to bring a dozen back for my older son! The ones from Syr. are unlike any we've had anywhere else. Harrison Bakery made the BEST halfmoons! ;)

    Mmmmm....Harrison.....

You know, I could just eat my way from Westcott St. down to Armory Square. Start at Dorians and make my way down to Pastabilities...

Of course, all of that is full of gluten <_<

  4. True! Pignoli cookies are gluten-free by their very nature! Here's a recipe: Open Original Shared Link

I personally wouldn't eat them from the bakery though because cc is a guarantee with all that loose flour flying around...

Speaking of italian cookies...Does anyone know of a recipe for half moon/black & white cookies? I had a gluteny one from a "NY" deli here and it was gross. I miss my half moons from Syracuse :(

  5. There is some evidence, in peer-reviewed published journals, that some of the physchological effects of gluten in celiac patients may be due, in part, to the fact that the undigested gluten, after it escapes the gut due to the damage to the intestines, is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and act as an opiate in the brain. If you believe that opiates can affect your mental state, and believe the research that gluten peptides can act as opiates in the brain, then you've got your answer. :-)

That makes a lot of sense. No wonder hydrocodone and other narcotics never made me feel loopy, I was already there! And right now, I'm totally there. Makes me nervous about driving home, feels like I need to sober up

  6. I went there last night and had a fantastically informed server.

She explained that not only do they use clean, new pans when preparing something for a celiac guest, but they will actually send someone out to a store to buy something if necessary. They stock gluten-free sauces and will bring them out to the table to show the guest. They steam their rice, both brown & white, in a dedicated steamer that is never used for anything besides rice and water. They will use clean ladles and utensils in preparing food for celiacs.

I was thoroughly impressed. I typically refuse to eat even a bite at a restaurant, regardless of their supposed "gluten-free" status. I was so confident in her knowledge that I had some brown rice with gluten-free soy sauce and I'm not sick this morning. :D

Hang on - is your signature true? Are you really getting married tomorrow? What the heck are you doing on the board today?

  7. *raising hand*

As I eat a bunch of gluteny pretzels...

I'm loopy, foggy, and have mood swings like you can't believe. I also get muscle aches. And I have trouble completing thoughts. And I throw tantrums like a 2 year old, I have trouble controlling those.

I'm a very nice person off gluten

I think it's because your body is so busy reacting to the gluten that it doesn't feed your brain much to function, or something like that. I'm sure someone else who knows much more than me will chime in. :)

  8. I have the classic model, and I ride that thing HARD! The new classic ones aren't too expensive, and I think Amazon has a promotion right now for June if you spend more than $125 in housewares...

    Open Original Shared Link

It's only $168 right now...and qualifies for free shipping!

  9. I'd have only one choice also - EAT! I'm hypoglycemic and I could either 1: not eat, throw up, get shakey, pass out, and deal with blood sugar problems all week or 2: get glutened

I'd rather get glutened, but is there coke available? If there's coke available, I drink that to keep my blood sugar afloat until I got to some food. Unless that made me more sick, then I'd have to eat!

  10. A server there once refused to give us the steamed rice because she thought it contained gluten. We tried to explain that only, "Wheat, rye, oats or barley. . ." were on the forbidden list but she just said, "well, it (the steamed rice) has loads of all that!" then she hurried away. With difficult waiters it's hard to say sometimes, some are truely ignorant, most are just nervous and unsure. Alot depends on the quality of the training (especially at places that boast a gluten-free menu) and that's up to the manager.

I've had that happen before, too, but not at Chang's. I was like, "steamed rice - water and rice, right?" Server: "yeah, but the chef says that's not gluten-free" Whatever.

  11. I have "petite" red blood cells, also. I had a doctor tell me that it had to do with a genetic disorder (that effects those of middle eastern descent?). That doctor was an idiot, she also tried to tell me I threw up because I was bulemic  Right, that whole excruciating pain thing had nothing to do with it.

    But I digress...

It's my understanding that small blood cells have to do with iron deficiency anemia, and isn't as big a deal as it sounds. In my understanding, it's iron deficiency anemia. With celiac, we tend to get really bad anemia.

  12. I am 3 weeks into gluten overload and I'm pretty much a stoned monster. That's bloated. And 10 lbs. fatter than 3 weeks ago.

I'm going to try to make it the whole three months, since I was gluten-free four months before deciding I wanted a biopsy (I'm so smart  ).

In my case, it seems like my body is just so overwhelmed it doesn't know what to do with itself. D, C, normal, it can't decide!

Hang in there and do what you can! I highly reccommend phazyme, and also ask your doc for bentyl or another antispasmodic if you get stomach cramps from the gluten.

    Godspeed :)

  13. Soooo...I was in a mediterranean market here in Texas, and aside from that wierd statement they had an odd mishmash of greek, middle eastern, spanish, and british foods.

I was so psyched that they had so much british stuff! My BIL is from England so I got spoiled with good english stuff. Does anyone know if the following products are gluten-free:

    Bird's Custard powder

    Ribena

    Crunchie bars

Any Heinz sauces (the british ones, not the american ones)

    Quality Street

    Thanks!!!

PS: If you know of any widely available (and more likely to be found here) British treats that are gluten-free, feel free to share!!!
