  1. Tiffany, do you (or does anybody) have any suggestions on HOW to take legal action against this !@#$%^&*! doctor? I have no written or tape recorded proof that he said anything--all I have is the lab report.
  2. Thank you, everybody, for your supportive responses. Robbin, I'm so sorry to hear about all your difficulties. I hope the enterolab thing gives you some definite answers. Sometimes the worst part is not knowing. How old are your kids? I nursed mine for 2 to 2 1/2 years, too (with, of course, lots of disapproval from the doctors and everybody...
  3. Hi, does anybody know what I might use to substitute for a roux? That's when you thicken a soup or a sauce by cooking equal amounts of "regular" flour and butter (or margarine) together, and then whisking in broth or milk. Would Bette Hagman flour work? Or corn meal? Or cornstarch? It would be so great if something gluten-free would work. Before I...
  4. Wow, what a great thread! I just got home from (where else) the doctor, ready to scream--but more about that later. Nini, I had a similar pregnancy to yours 11 years ago (after 1 miscarriage). I had toxemia and3 1/2 hours of pushing, and Michael (at 37 weeks) was only 4 1/2 pounds. What may have saved us was that I could barely keep anything down...
  5. There are a lot of chocolate milk powders that contain barley malt. If the one you like, FairySprinkle, is made by a manufacturer who also makes a malted milk variety (like Ovaltine, for example), there might be cross-contamination.
  6. Hi, I'm not 100% sure that what I had was DH. It was, as one of you said so well, UGLY, raised, red, severely itchy-burny, and yes it looked like it was oozing with honey. But it was all over both arms (and very symmetrical). My doctor said it was just plain contact dermatitis--but there was not a GD thing that my arms were exposed to and the rest of my...
  7. I found an excellent and EASY rice pizza recipe on-line: I think it was 2 cups of cooked rice mixed with one egg and one cup shredded cheese (I used cheddar), mixed, spread out on a pizza pan, and baked for 12-16 minutes at 400 degrees. Then, fill with your favorite toppings (but be careful of tomato sauce, many contain wheat)--you can just puree a drained...
  8. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is when the stupid immune system (sorry, I'm rather angry at mine just now ) decides that it's allergic to the thyroid and makes antibodies to destroy it. Meanwhile, the pituitary gland senses that the thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) (which it can't do as it's being destroyed by the immune system), so...
  9. Hi, Heather, Wow, what a difficult year you've had! I don't know how to direct you to a GOOD chiropractor (there are some who are total quacks out there), but if you haven't been to one, that could make a world of difference for you. I"ve been to both(total quack and a good chiropractor); I dragged myself into the good one's office unable to...
  10. Thanks, Richard. I thought maltodextrin came from barley? I found it listed on several celiac sites as something to be avoided. Question: how does one differentiate DH from eczema? My 7-year-old son has had a rash at his elbows for years; we were always told it was classic exzema. But when I went gluten-free last month, the whole family did (I can...
  11. Hi, Floridanative, I had post-shingles neuropathy, too. You have my sympathies. Mine usually lasted about 1 minute. In the beginning the attacks came and went every few minutes, but they tapered off. They disappeared totally in about a year. Good luck! Does anybody know exactly what the relationship is between shingles, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (mine...
  12. Hi, I'm so new at this, I haven't even been officially diagnosed with anything other than Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (which was diagnosed 20 years ago). My intestinal problems have always been so mild, I never thought they were problems , but recently, I developed a HORRIBLE itchy burny red and oozing rash on both arms. All my doctor did was to put me on prednisone...
