  1. Okay, to make us ALL happy, they need to start making gluten-free matzah AND gluten-free commmunion wafers! After all, isn't that where the communion wafer came from? The Last Supper was a Passover Seder.... What would happen if His Holiness, the Pope were diagnosed with celiac? Would they excommunicate him--or change the ruling on gluten? (I mean no...
  2. I'm still pretty new to this myself, so my answer is not real information, just my own experience. I believe I had an episode of DH in January. I had 2 endoscopies in the past because of 25 years of reflux, but as far as I know, the doctor didn't observe anything unusual except acid burns on my esophagus. I demanded bloodwork from an unbelievably horrible...
  3. Hi, Lisa, Feeding every 1 to 1 1/2 hours for the first couple of weeks might be neceassry to get your milk supply established. Your milk will come in MUCH more quickly if you nurse constantly the first couple of days, that's for sure. By the time it comes in, though, you should't have to nurse as often. But all of mine definitely slept through much...
  4. What on earth do we do for Passover? Does gluten-free matzoh exist? How do you make gefilte fish without matzoh meal? And we're not supposed to eat rice during passover.... Do we just poison ourselves for 8 days a year?
  5. I had the same dream night before last for the first time ever!!! And the funny thing was, I didn't even like what I was eating. After the first few weeks of being off gluten, I stopped craving it, so I don't even want it--why the heck did I dream about it? I guess we're all connected here, not just by this board, but in our dreams!
  6. Oh, Ms. Sillyak, I think it's a brilliant idea--but there are some problems inherent in the medical/pharmaceutical industry that may keep your idea from working. First of all, THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY DOES NOT CARE. Many of us have already been through this with them with autism. They won't admit any link between vaccines and autism, they do their...
  7. Okay, I feel like an idiot for asking this, but I have very little potato experience--I've never served much in the way of starches except rice for dinner, but one of my kids (the one who is most likely to have celiac) always wanted bread, which I'm not letting him have any more at dinner. I've been making potatoes instead, which he loves, but I don't know...
  8. I was at the deli at our local Giant Eagle, asking about gluten-free deli meats, and the lady behind the counter pointed to the countertop where there were a whole pile of pamphlets (nicely printed in color, several pages) about all the differnt gluten-free products Giant Eagle carries and in which section of the store to find them!!!!!! The down side...
  9. I'm sure you're right and I shouldn't have said that they're more sensible than MD's. I've just been SO frustrated with SO many MD's!!!!!! Thanks for the more thorough information!
  10. If you're not allergic to dairy, "real" mac'n;cheese is easy--and I think it tastes way better than Kraft. While your gluten-free pasta is boiling, melt 2-3 tablespoons of butter in a sauce pan (I like to add just a little chopped onion here), add 2-3 tablespoons of either your favorite gluten-free flour blend or some combination of cornstarch/corn meal...
  11. Now, that is really weird--I had this huge long post about physiatrists, and it just disappeared except for the first sentence! What's going on ? I know it posted at least once correctly, because I went back and reread the whole thing after I posted it. Anybody know what happened?????? I'll try again: don't know if I should post this here or...
  12. Walmart? Really? Wowee! I've been wearing a Swatch watch,b ut they're so darn expensive, and the straps don't seem to last long. Thanks!!!!!!
  13. I don't know if I should post this here or under "Post-diagnosis and recovery." This is something I've only just found out while trying to learn about how to heal a torn rotator cuff without surgery, but I think it could have a lot of benefit for people on this board with joint pain, so please move this post to wherever it will do the most good! There...
  14. I don't know if I should post this here or under "Post-diagnosis and recovery."
  15. I also like to watch "a Baby Story," but sometimes it makes me really mad. The woman usually goes to the hospital (and is admitted) quite early on in labor, lays flat on her back hooked up to various things, and after a few hours of being flat on her back is told that labor is failing to progress and she needs a C-section. EVERYBODY is different. I...
  16. They call celiac "the Great Pretender." Those symptoms of nausea, headache, and jitteriness can also be signs of low blood sugar, low blood pressure, high blood pressure, migraines, medication reactions, and probably a bunch of other things. I wouldn't be surprised if celiac could CAUSE all those problems, too. Do you have a blood pressure monitor...
  17. Okay, this is a very long shot but: When I was in kindergarten (or was it first grade?), I played with a little girl down the street whose mother (who was also the Brownie Scouts Troup Leader) died of stomach cancer that same year. I remember my mother telling me that the little girl's mother had had stomach problems for ages, but wasn't the complaining...
  18. I'm curious--I've always had a major dermatitis reaction to nickel-containing metal, from earrings to necklaces to watches to metallic threads in blouses! I had bought a blouse from the thrift store, washed it, and didn't see that the shoulder pads (this was a few years ago) were held by safety pins. I wore the blouse for three hours, and then had a...
  19. The "Almondy" Original Swedish Almond TOrte with DAIM from IKEA is unbelievably good--and it's gluten-free!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can eat it by the slice in their restaurant, but it's quite inexpensive to buy the whole thing frozen and bring it home. I wonder how many more IKEA products are gluten-free? I had actually bought this before I knew I had...
  20. Hi, Suzanne, I took Zyrtec for the itching, and I was also on prednisone for 10 days. I wonder if Zyrtec was also helpful in lessening the "allergic" part of my reaction? I don't know. I made my rash worse, initially, because I had never heard of DH (and did not have any other obvious signs of celiac disease), so I soaked in oatmeal baths and put lotions...
  21. That looks great, Nancy! Thanks for the heads-up, Rusla, I'll use peanut butter instead of black bean sauce. I think Martin Yan hs a black bean sauce recipe from scratch somewhere....
  22. My old faithful standby cooking sauce WAS Hoisin sauce. Anybody have a recipe for a gluten-free version? Thanks!
  23. But it's not soy-free, and Jen is looking for a gluten-free and soy-free stir fry sauce. Here's a good one: If you're making chicken or beef, slice it very thin across the grain (freeze it for an hour before you slice it for the best results), and marinate it (even for 10 minutes is fine) in a combination of either rice wine or white wine (maybe 1/...
  24. MSG just makes me terribly, terribly thirsty. Ms. Sillyak, what symptoms do you notice when you've been "soyed?" I have Hashimoto's, and I've never noticed problems with soy, but I guess I should be on the lookout! Thanks, Fujifiddle
  25. Someone mentioned green tea as being a no-no for people with thyroid disorders. I couldn't find anything on the internet; if anything, I kept finding sites recommending green tea for people with hypothyroidism! Anybody have any links to articles and/or studies? Thank you!
