ARCHIVED Anybody Else Here With Autism/add In The Family?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, that sounds familiar. My mother tends to be sharply critical, both in the way she sees everything (very negative) and how she presents her suggestions. We get along with each other much better now that we live 500 miles apart--but then my children don't get to spend enough time with her. Most of the time, actually, I don't get enough time with her either... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Find The Hidden Gluten In My Dinner
Fiddle-Faddle replied to tiffjake's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If they use a wheat-containing seasoning blend on some of their steaks, it's possible the cook either put the wrong steak on the dish or the waiter gave you a plate that was meant for someone else. -
ARCHIVED Quick Question
Fiddle-Faddle replied to KayJay's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My youngest went similarly long periods between poops at that age (and she was breastfed only). Our pediatrician suggested starting with large-stone fruits (pears, peaches, plums, and apricots), and to avoid bananas, wheat and rice cereal, and applesauce as they tended to be constipating. We did give our kids oatmeal back then, but that was before we were... -
ARCHIVED Indian Food In Littleton
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Natascha's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks so much for the info. I love Indian food, and assumed that the resaurants would all be off limits! Now I know to ask first! -

If it makes you feel any better, I think most people are like that to some extent (some of us, myself included, more than others!) I'm not officially Asperger's, but I do notice some shadows of it looming in my social skills--which greatly improved over the last couple of decades, thanks mostly to some good friends who understood that I wasn't an idiot... -
ARCHIVED Helpful Chart For Blood Test Results
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Mia, I think it may be different from lab to lab. When you get your results from your doctor, ask for a copy of the lab work. It should not only give what your specific numbers are, but what the reference range is. I just discovered that I need to drink a lot (20 ounces or so) before getting blood drawn--otherwise they poke me black and blue trying... -
ARCHIVED Helpful Chart For Blood Test Results
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My husband found this--it looks very helpful in analyzing supposedly "inconclusive" bloodwork. The chart is about halfway down: Open Original Shared Link. Sorry if this is a duplicate of info someone may have already posted. -

ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to tiffjake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds FANTASTIC--would you mind very much if I ask you for the measurements--how much of each ingredient, etc? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?

Tiffany, are you okay? Are you feeling any better yet? I'm getting worried about you.... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Reaction From Gluten? Do You Get This?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to tiffjake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Heck, situations like that put me on the emotional rollercoaster even without gluten! I think your reaction is totally normal. By leaving anote on your windshield, that person invaded your personal space. That's definitely alittle scary. He or she directed rage at you when you did absolutely nothing wrong--of course that isn't fair and makes you feel... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did you have thyroid antibodies, too? Just curious, as it sounds like we have VERY similar symptoms except I never had IBS or Fibromyalgia. I never thought of citric acid--I wonder if I react to that, too. Did you ever get a weird rash on just your arms? I could have sworn mine was DH, but the biopsy was negative. I never knew rice cakes HAD citric acid... -
ARCHIVED Support Groups Near Pittsburgh?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We desperately need decent-tasting gluten-free items up north, especially at Giant Eagle, or Festival Foods (I like them better than Giant Eagle becasue they're not taking over everything in sight)! The buyers at Giant Eagle are idiots, I swear. They only stock Food FOr Life frozen breads, they have a couple of Bob's Red Mill flours, and they don't... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free, Dairy-free, Soy-free Butter Alternative?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think Fleischmann's margarine is made from corn oil. If your supermarket doesn't carry it, look for a Kosher foodstore (a store that sells Kosher food for Orthodox and Conservative Jews who must follow the Kosher dietary laws--theyare not allowed to mix dairy and meat at the same meal, so dairy-free margarine is used a lot!). -
ARCHIVED Press Reporting -- Soy-based Foods Bad For Us!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Publications & Publicity
Um, Ms Sillyak, I didn't see anything in the article that indicates that soy is BAD--did you leave something out by mistake? -
ARCHIVED gluten-free/cf Comfort Food Recipes...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There's a chicken casserole I've always loved--it didn't start out gluten-free/CF, but it's easy to adjust: leftover chicken meat, diced-- I usually use 2-3 cups leftover cooked rice--2-3 cups chopped onions--1/2-1 cup thawed frozen mixed vegetables--1/2-1 cup (this sounds gross, but it's really good) 1/2 cup of mayonnaise 1/2 cup sour cream (Better... -

Well, now that's an idea I hadn't thought of! Gee--maybe that's why I didn't react to the CHinese dumpling.... Thanks, Ravenwoodglass, I'll have to check into this! -
ARCHIVED I'm Cured!-temporarily?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Candy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Candy, I had a similar experience this week--I gave in and had a spring roll and a steamed dumpling (I have some Chinese friends who are awesome cooks) and, as far as I could tell, I didn't react. However, I'm not ready to dive back into gluten yet. I have too many immune system problems--I have Hashimoto's, which right now is not well under... -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Disease Cause Eczema?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Smitten's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since cutting gluten out of my children's breakfasts, snacks, and dinners (as far as I know, they don't have celiac, so I let them have bread or pasta at lunch), I have noticed that my 7-year-old's eczema has disappeared. I don't know if celiac causes eczema, but I'd say in my son's case, gluten overload causes it! -
ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've learned so much from all of you, I don't even know where to start! Okay, I guess the most important one is that a positive dietary response means more than a diagnosis from a doctor. But, wow, the amount of informatin on this board is mind-boggling! -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Could xanthan gum somehow be overprocessed in the same way that wheat gluten is and that is what makes your system reject it? I seem to react to gluten-free breads and cakes the same way I react to regular bread (gas and bloating)--but frozen corn and corn tortillas don't seem to be a problem. I thought it was all in my head until I read your post--sheesh... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Day Care Issues?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to celiacsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You know, it's not an easy thing for a child to switch day care providers--it's very traumatic, almost like switching mommies (and if they're taking care of your child for 40 hours a week, that IS like being mommy #2. I don't think you should switch to another one until you know FOR DARN sure taht the gluten situation WILL be better, and even more importantly... -

ARCHIVED Important Personal Questions About Celiac's
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Mabiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
!), 2), 3), YES! 4) I read that approximately 80% of kids on the autistic spectrum (which includes Asperger's) have sensitivities to gluten and casein. Welcome to the board, Mabiac! ARCHIVED Reflux Discussion
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Can you take Tums? Do they contain gluten? Or Mylanta? Maybe the baby reflux diet (half as much twice as often) might help? And stay away from citrus , tomato sauce, and other acidic or spicy foods for a while! I wonder if rice can help with the acid? Good luck--let us know how it's going!
