ARCHIVED Unbelievable Chicken Recipe

Do you have to roast the garlic, or can you just use 6 smashed cloves of raw garlic? -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks for the heads-up on vitamin E--I will go out and buy some today! Ursula--I always wondered why some band-aids left red welts on my skin for days, sometimes weeks! I never considered that I might be allergic to the glue. Sheesh. For your insane itching, try ice--that helped me, although I don't know if it's the greatest thing for your skin. Still... -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Ursula, let me know how your biopsy site (or sites?) is healing. Mine was done in January, and it is still red and itchy, and it seems to have a lot of scar tissue--very thick. And after all that, it came back negative--but that was 2 weeks after a ten-day course of prednisone, so maybe that isn't so surprising after all. At any rate, I'm done with tests... -
ARCHIVED Costco
Fiddle-Faddle replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Costco? Gee, about the only things I can think of that I've seen there are big bags of rice, fresh fish (it was salmon last time I was there) unseasoned fresh boneless chicken breasts, fresh fruit, and fresh vegetables! Although I really like Kinnikinnick's bread (which I've never seen at Costco anyway), I think I'm happiest when I just leave bread and... -
As you wean yourself off (and I agree that slow weaning is the best for any med, or even caffeine!), it would probably make a HUGE difference if you could get a good hour of exercise and fresh air EVERY day (a one-hour walk would kill 2 birds with one stone, so to speak). If it rains, then wear a rain poncho (umbrellas are really too much of a pain to carry...

My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And THANK YOU so much! -
I had something similar (migraines with no or little pain, just vision disturbances) starting when I was pregnant with my first child. It coincided with preeclampsia in my case (dangerously high blood pressure); it later returned a month after the birth (but without the high blood pressure)--my doctor said that at that point it was caused by hormone changes...

ARCHIVED Vaccines?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've been wondering if it's possible that gluten IS potentially poison for everybody--we just have a lower threshold than most! -
ARCHIVED 7 Month Very Sensitive To All Wheat
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rilith's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My oldest son (the one who had open heart surgery) gagged on all kinds of things, too, including rice cereal (unless it was very soupy with breast milk). What did work (when he was well over a year) was soups--miso soup, chicken broth (real, not canned), and eventually I made soup with beans, ground meat, all kinds of vegies, and rice. When he was about... -

ARCHIVED Vaccines?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And what do you suggest for people who react badly to vaccines? Which vaccines would you pick and choose here? What about people with a family history of immune disorders? And food allergies? I'm glad you and your wife have remained flu-free for 20 years. I didn't have the flu before taking the flu vaccine, but I sure did after having it. Once I stopped... -
ARCHIVED Vaccines?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When i've had the flu shot, I ended up with a huge hot red swelling at the injection site. The first time it was the size of a lime. The next time it was larger, and the last time, it was the size of a grapefruit. At that point, the doctor said I shouldn't get them anymore. I also felt mildly ill for weeks following the shots. Same thing happened to... -
ARCHIVED Vaccines?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Try googling SV-40. Here's just one site for starters: Open Original Shared Link. Yes, we are lucky that nobody gets polio anymore, but it's very possible that polio has simply been replaced by things like MS, Lou Gherig's disease, and other immune system malfunctions (like celiac?). -
ARCHIVED Need Help - New Possible Dx - Son Sick!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to DebbieJny's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, Debbie, it does sound scary. Do you have a pediatrician that you like? Would they be able to get your son seen by a specialist sooner? Sometimes, if it's the pediatrician making the appointment (and making it sound urgent), an appointment magically opens up the next day or so. The dark circles and tiredness would worry me, too. I have heard ... -
ARCHIVED Vaccines?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Ursula. I would also try to find out if this is some kind of mix-up on the part of the office. If not, I would ask to speak to the gastroenterologist and find out WHAT vaccines he is ordering and WHY. And then I would probably start looking for a new gastroenerologist. (Sorry!) -
ARCHIVED Need Help - New Possible Dx - Son Sick!
Fiddle-Faddle replied to DebbieJny's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so sorry to hear what you and your little one are going through. There are many people here who are far more knowledgeable about this than I am, so, guys, feel free to jump in and correct me! I'm wondering if it might be at least some help to reduce your son's gluten intake, and even to experiement to see if some kinds affect him worse than others... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Develpoed As A Side-effect?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to MissSio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Really? Everyone else I've talked to who's had it only had it for a couple of weeks--but that was 19 years ago. Maybe nowadays everyone gets it more severely? Or is it just us? -

ARCHIVED 7 Month Very Sensitive To All Wheat
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rilith's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the board! You'll find many of us who have children with various issues--my oldest has Asperger's and heart problems. You mention trouble with weaning--are you weaning her from the tube-feeding, or from the breast? If she's only 7 months old, is there a reason to wean? -
ARCHIVED Celiac Develpoed As A Side-effect?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to MissSio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Had I not had a similar experience to your mother's, I would certainly be inclined to say that meds have nothing to do with it.But, after reading your post, I'm wondering myself if there's a link. However, I don't think it's a direct cause-and-effect scenario. Here's my experience: A month after receiving Gamma Globulin and being sent to mainland China... -
ARCHIVED Inconsistent Reactions
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Okay, I've been gluten-free since January exept for one day, where I ate a Chinese dumpling and a spring roll with no discenable reaction. I was glad I didn't react, but with all my immune system goofiness, I'm not about to scarf down gluten, so I went right back to my gluten-free diet. Tonight, my husband made a box of scalloped potatoes (he never... -

I cut out tags, too!!!! That's the only reason I keep a seam ripper (I'm not a good seamstress). I could never understand why the clothing manufacturers couldn't use stick-on labels so we could easily unstick them. At least, Fruit-of-theLoom and Hanes are starting to use stamp-on labels--mushc less irritating. I'm also noticing that my 4-year-old gets...
