ARCHIVED How Sensitive Is "very Sensetive"?
rumbles replied to raisin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the great info on Kingsford! - I stopped using them over a year ago because they were making me sick, - I'm going to start using them again!! -
ARCHIVED How Sensitive Is "very Sensetive"?

If that was a charcoal barbeque, hopefully it was lump wood charcoal. Charcoal briquettes are held together by . . . gluten. -
Sorry that you got nauseated. Half still would have produced some results, and from what you said, it did. If you drank half of it and didn't burp for ten minutes, it suggests that your digestive problems are starting in your stomach. When you drink the baking soda and water mixture, it will react with the hydrochloric acid in your stomach and produce...

Deleted - the software burped on me in the middle of writing this! (I guess it doesn't have stomach problems!)

Whoops - sorry, I'm having software issues. Please see the post on the next page.

ARCHIVED How Sensitive Is "very Sensetive"?
rumbles replied to raisin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think a super sensitive thread would be great! - I think we should have our own subforum category. It won't change the insensitivity that goes on in the other subforums, but at least it could be a safer place for those of us that have the ability to demonstrate that gluten effects us at even the smallest of amounts! -

You are soooo not alone on this. I had someone invalidate one of my postings on this board the other day because they felt that what I said would not relate to new celiacs, and then questioned the validity of part of the info that I posted (which was documented by others in other postings last year). From my viewpoint, it was rude, hurtful and completely... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed: Are My Symptoms Typical?
rumbles replied to Nichelob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have the vision problems that you mentioned, plus was having a problem with halos around lights at night (so much for the 20/15 vision after RK!). One eye is worse than the other. B12 helped some with night vision problems and halos. Leutine helped a bit more, - before the leutine, I couldn't read the clock in my car without squinting, and I'd have... -
If your body isn't digesting protein, fat or carbs, you will need to take the right enzyme supplements to break them down when you eat those items. We're starting with the stomach (the second digestive phase in the body, - the mouth is first,), as if there is a problem there, you can't really correct issues at the next phases, so the baking soda...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed: Are My Symptoms Typical?
rumbles replied to Nichelob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The symptoms vary from person to person, and over time. It's not unusual for someone to have celiac disease and not have any symptoms. Brain fog and headaches are quite common. You're going to need to check everything that goes into your body, touches your body, or touches the food that goes into your body. That not only includes food, it includes... -
Thanks Yoekie, The doctor is probably looking at something called CRP (C-Reative Protein), and some other markers in the bloodwork that indicate inflammation, and in some markers, the type of tissue (brain, blood, joint) involved. Your answers were what I was suspecting. They suggest that your body isn't digesting protein (peanut butter rock), fat...

ARCHIVED Maybe Apple Ceo Steve Jobs Has celiac disease?
rumbles replied to Bill in MD's topic in Publications & Publicity
I think he has pancreatitis, - causing his pancreas to not make the enzymes to digest protein (protease), and possibly not making the enzymes to digest fat (lipase) and starch/carbs (amylase), through it's normal hormone synthesis. He says that he has a hormone imbalance that is robbing him of protein and was confirmed through bloodwork - which almost... -
Yoekie, What were your symptoms when you ate gluten? What were your symptoms when you ate eggs? What were your symptoms when you consumed dairy products? (Please answer these three questions separately.) How did your doctor determine that you were egg/gluten/lactose intolerant? (Elimination diet? Allergy testing? Blood work? Biopsy? etc.) You mention...

ARCHIVED Malabsorption - Celiac Disease = Catastrophe Living
rumbles replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ms. Skinny Chick, You got it, - pancreatic insufficiency is exactly what I was talking about. It doesn't always present like the text books say though, - instead of bulky stools or diarrhea, I won the lottery with constipation and weight gain. I started researching after I started getting a rock in my stomach after eating, which turned on the light... -
ARCHIVED Clould This Be The Answer?!
rumbles replied to bakingbarb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celiac isn't an allergy to wheat. Allergy testing will not tell if someone has or doesn't have celiac disease. If the doctor is telling you that you don't have celiac disease because you don't have an allergy to wheat, you might want to consider looking for another doctor. Some of us call celiac an allergy (usually when ordering food) because allergies... -
ARCHIVED Question On Gatorade And Popcorn
rumbles replied to jsg1518's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I checked with a major U.S. theatre company a couple of years ago as to whether or not their popcorn contained gluten, - at that time, it did. I just sent an email to AMC Theatre's CFO to find out if that's still true, and will advise once I hear back. -
ARCHIVED Question On Gatorade And Popcorn
rumbles replied to jsg1518's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Because of the butter flavorings used, movie popcorn usually isn't gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Malabsorption - Celiac Disease = Catastrophe Living
rumbles replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For some of us, celiac is only part of the malabsorption problem. The gluten free diet only addresses malabsorption caused by ingesting gluten. There are other conditions that often accompany celiac that also create absorption problems. Two that I've become way too familiar with are low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria), and pancreatic enzyme deficiency... -
Dee, I had one hugh stroke of luck shortly after I found out I had celiac disease, and I hope that you wind up with the same kind of luck. At the time that I found out what was making me so sick, my husband was living with near constant back pain; being in his mid-50s, he figured this was a part of aging. When I told him that I'd have to be on a...

ARCHIVED Worst Gluten Reaction Ever And Scared
rumbles replied to bremac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bre, I'm sorry to hear that you're getting hit so hard by this! Keep the Gatorade flowing, as you don't want an electrolyte imbalance! ~ And definitely call/see your doctor! 24 hours is too long, - if you're still vomiting tonight, call your doctor now, - the doctor should have an answering service or have a way to page them. Dry heaves come... -
ARCHIVED Malabsorption - Celiac Disease = Catastrophe Living
rumbles replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bakingbarb, ~ it's good to hear that your doctor is looking into and treating nutritional deficiencies (so many doctors just ignore this!), even if she doesn't understand celiac disease (hopefully you will help her with that part in the future )! If the dry skin is excessive (which is sounds like it is), your doctor might want to check your pancreatic... -
ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed-legal Recourse?
rumbles replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the U.S., I believe this would be a civil court matter, if you can find an attorney that will accept the case. A malpractice suit would probably be very extensive and expensive (especially when the doctor's insurance company attorneys gets involved), and could take years. (Did the doctor require you to sign a binding arbitration agreement? ... -
ARCHIVED Unhappy Teenager Making Transition To Gluten Free
rumbles replied to NYCCeliacMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is having such a hard time. If it's any consolation, this does get easier over time. I'm not sure lactaid is the answer (I've never tried it, so I don't know), - most folks take dairy out of their diet in the beginning until their digestive system heals. For breakfast, you might want to try gluten free waffles... -
ARCHIVED Rules To Live By So You Can Avoid Getting Glutened
rumbles replied to Lisa16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so glad to see this thread! Let's make it the ultimate resource guide for everyone that is new to the gluten free diet! I met a woman in crisis today in my local health food store, - she was diagnosed as gluten intolerant and told to follow a gluten free diet, but noone explained to her what that really means. There she was, in an extremely weakened... -
