  1. In my case, no. I have a total imbalance of pancreatic enzymes that put me in the other category. Pancreatic enzyme imbalance is a by-product of low stomach acid (there are also other causes). The three enzymes that I'm referring to are amylase, lipase and protease. Amylase digests carbohydrates and remnants of used white blood cells, normally converting...
  2. Ms. Skinny Chic, Do you have gastric reflux, periods of rapid heartbeat (especially at night) and/or almost-daily (or nightly) allergies? (Edited to give a full explanation as to why I'm asking this) You mentioned parietal cells, which are the cells in the stomach that secrete intrinsic factor - which binds to vitamin B12 and makes it absorbable...
  3. Hi Jay, Welcome to our health club! You're in the right place, as the people here are really great, and there's tons of information on just about everything gluten related. Don't get discouraged, as once you take the first step and go completely gluten free, and start feeling better, it becomes easier with each day, until it eventually becomes second...
  4. Renee, Not as extensive, but I've had many of the issues that you have. For me, the hand tremors, speech problems and muscle spasms are under control with (gluten free) sublingual B-12 two to three times daily. I've been on the B-12 for a couple of years, - the symptoms don't return now unless I forget to take the B-12 for a couple of days. For me, taking...
  5. I use Zyrtec for indoor/outdoor allergies, and Sudafed for food allergies when I eat something I shouldn't . . .
  6. Great news!!! I can't wait until they roll it out nationwide!!!
  7. Congrats, sickchick!!! - And thanks for your posts!!
  8. I was diagnosed with "sprue" when I was a toddler, and told that I would grow out of it. When I was 17, I was hospitalized for excrutiating lower abdominal pain. After a laparoscopy, I was diagnosed with PSOD, and was put on the pill to reduce the pain, which was about 85% effective. A short time later, my sister, also having lower abdominal pain, was...
  9. sickchick, How long were you taking the Adrenal caps before you noticed a difference, and what did you notice improved first? rumbles
  10. *** I do NOT suggest that anyone try this, - especially if you have not been on a strict gluten free diet for at least a couple of years. This posting is strictly about one dumb blonde that had a lapse of judgement, and experimented with something that very well could cause serious damage!**** That being said, Josh and Larry Mac, add me to the...
  11. Hi, Lisa! You mentioned that you have a lot of food sensitivities, you feel better when you take dairy out of your diet, and that after going gluten free, you crave beets and spinach to the point where if you don't have them, you feel bad. These things might be linked together, - they sound like something that I experienced (along with uncontrolled...
  12. While I'm concerned about anyone recently diagnosed and newly on the diet reading and possibly misunderstanding or thinking that they could possibly drink beer made with gluten products, I thank Josh for posting about this. When he directly consumes gluten, his test results apparenty come back positive, but those test results remain negative if he restricts...
  13. A new cutting board and new cooking utensils, pots, pans might be a great gift. Old cutting boards, collanders, wood spoons that were used to make products containing gluten need to go, - it's almost impossible to get the gluten out of them. A new toaster could also be a great gift, - since he'll need one that is never used for gluten. If he barbeques, perhaps...
  14. I'm going to try to explain . . . (it's not easy to explain, as it's quite complicated, but I'll give it a shot). The correlation or relationship between Hashimoto's, Diabetes and Celiac isn't so much that it's necessarily overlooked, it's that it's not fully understood yet. Until medical science can complete more of the puzzle, and then present it...
  15. It's really special that you care for her enough to learn this and try to keep her from getting glutened. You are amazing, and that's exactly what she needs! A lot depends on how sensitive she is. There's no one-shoe-fits-all with this condition. Some people don't react at all, some only react when they are directly glutened, some when they get a fair...
  16. I don't know if it will be open in time for your vacation, . . . Whole Foods is opening a market in the Maui Mall either late this year, or beginning of next year, according to an article in the Maui News . . . Open Original Shared Link
  17. Not in this lifetime. Never again. I learned my lesson. Years ago, I was put on medication for a severe case of ovarian cysts. The side effects of this medication was mentioned as a slight risk, and glossed over. The medication worked for the most part, but I got tired of taking pills every day, and my sister went through a battle with breast cancer...
  18. Please don't stop the Protonix without the advice and guidance from your medical doctor. Your tummy, your upper digestive tract, has been effected by the gluten, and possibly other issues; the Protonix is used to try to control symptoms of acid reflux. If the acid reflux was caused by gluten in your diet, it will take months for that issue to resolve itself...
  19. Hi, Linda, Welcome to the forum! This is a great place for information, support, and to meet people that are learning about or have been living with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Many of us live with food allergies, and can help with ideas and suggestions. A bit of friendship and laughter never hurts along the way either, and both of those...
  20. Hi, Johnny Cool, I didn't have foggyness, dizziness, light headed or numbness when going gluten free, but did have problems sleeping for more than a few hours in the beginning, - that lasted a couple of months. If you haven't already, you might want to verify with the manufacturer that the sleeping pills are gluten free. Unfortunately, medications...
  21. The times we were there, there were about 30 to 40 people. A lot of info, and some brought gluten free food to try/share; everyone leaves a little wiser and realizing that we're not alone. If I were closer, I would definitely go more often! The Glutino pretzels are great, - I keep a stash in the pantry at all times! We're also stuck on their pizza breadsticks...
  22. Hi, Molecular Dude, Welcome! I'm in Sebastian. Hubby and I are both gluten free. I have celiac, and he's gluten intolerant. I'm not sure if any are on this forum, but there are quite a few people following the gluten free diet in the Melbourne area, - I've met many at Wild Oats on 192, plus there is a doctor in Palm Bay that is trying to educate...
  23. I'm having difficulty with the statement that "the "scientific jury" is still out on whether or not Celiac disease is the direct casue of enamel hypoplasia." Doctors and Dentists in the U.S. knew about the dental hypoplasia link to celiac decades ago when I was young (unfortunately, they believed that those of us that had it would grow out of it, but that...
  24. Maybe he's afraid to find out that he needs to be gluten free. My hubby went through much the same right after I found out I had celiac. I was doing all of the cooking, so he wound up on the diet "by accident" and found out the hard way when all of his aches and pains disappeared; he's never wanted to touch anything with gluten in it since.
  25. Happy Thanksgiving! ~ and Thank You for helping my family learn to be healthy again!
