ARCHIVED This Place Is Wonderful
celiac3270 replied to glen4cindy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hypochondriac.......close....just the "h"...I wouldn't have said anything, but I had that as a spelling word in fifth grade...only two years ago, or 2 and a half, so I still remember...lol. Whenever I see those Zelnorm ads, I always think about celiac disease....since it's always misdiagnosed as IBS, etc. In addition, I don't take your comment... -

I feel like I know a lot of people on the board....after these five months...when I joined I pretty quickly learned the names of quite a few that were already here....such as Richard, Mariann, Jessica, Tiffany, Dessa, Stacie, Kristina, Kathleen.....etc. (I know I've left out quite a few).....I think it would be kind of cool if everyone posted a relatively...

ARCHIVED How Do You Propose A New Topic?
celiac3270 replied to lisabarella's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I agree with Jessica.....I do think that there are more and more fitness postings, but info. on good carb. foods, for example, might go under the foods, products, shopping section. Something on fatigue from celiac disease affecting sports might go under coping or post-diagnosis/recovery...........I don't think that there are enough people yet for an entire... -
ARCHIVED Why Are Some Topics Pinned?
celiac3270 replied to soul04's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Pinning a topic also shows us moderators that it's been reviewed by another moderator. Some people post multiple posts of the same information, and therefore, a moderator would move multiples posts w/ same info. to the Technical section to be deleted my Scott. Some posts are in the wrong spot, and therefore, need to be moved. Besides giving posts a permanant... -
ARCHIVED Trace Amounts Of Gluten Acceptable
celiac3270 replied to MichelleC's topic in Publications & Publicity
With that statistic it sounds like less, but any amount being acceptable is still scary. -
ARCHIVED Who Uses Oats?
celiac3270 replied to catfish's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just scared...and cautious...so I'm not going to do any experimenting with them.......no oats for me! -
ARCHIVED Celiac? Wheat Intolerant? Should I Care Which?
celiac3270 replied to glen4cindy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Indeed it would! The tiniest molecule of gluten screws up your intestines so a Krispy Kreme would wreak absolute havoc. That was my first thought when I started ....when the doc. said "no wheat" I wondered if it was permittable once a year...like a slice of pizza on my birthday, or something....I researched and quickly learned that it is unacceptable... -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis Anxiety (and A Few Questions)
celiac3270 replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
after having bloodwork done, doctors will want you to stay on gluten so that your biopsy results are accurate. Therefore, I knew I had celiac disease after bloodwork, but stayed on gluten until after the biopsy....if I had gone off gluten, the biopsy may not have shown celiac disease or may have been more borderline.... -celiac3270 -
ARCHIVED GF Girlfriend
celiac3270 replied to bignate's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Glad to have helped, NegativeZero. You are correct; modified food starch can be bad if it's made from wheat. It's good to be wary. Second, thanks for trying the Chebe ! I've mentioned it a lot, but I think you'll be the first to try it! As for a gluten-free brownie mix, there's no way you'd find it in a grocery store, because there are no mainstream... -
A good point.....I always thought about that when I used those gloves while dissecting brains and eyes in science....yuck....not humans, though . Anyway, my dentist doesn't use those gloves....I don't know if it would've been bad, but he doesn't use them......so in my case, it doesn't really matter, I guess.

I don't actually have depression, but before being diagnosed, I felt depressed and down all the time; the gluten-free diet actually made me feel better and happier! I can see why you wouldn't want to tell people about it, though.... I can entirely relate to what you mean on this.......I HATE to eat out or eat differently with people other than...

ARCHIVED French's Yellow Mustard, Heinz Ketchup
celiac3270 replied to crc0622's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fine.....I eat Heinz Ketchup regularly -
Jill, You can also correct spelling by going to the top of your post and clicking the edit button. I do that a lot.....don't worry about it, though....it takes time to learn all the features on the board... but you did get your signature made...nice. I can't answer the jaw question: I don't know too much about teeth in general or Celiac and teeth/jaws...

Trust me...that'll go...I felt the same way in the beginning -- that if I could, I'd go eat a big pizza or something...now, even if I was allowed to, you couldn't pay me to.......well, maybe pay me, but I wouldn't go do it on my own ...it makes me feel sick just to think about it -- yuck....after this, you'll never look at gluten the same way, and I doubt...

Okay...thanks, for the replies...I guess if I can just avoid large amounts of dairy, that's better, anyway.

Flo, When you post a new topic on the board, it goes to one of the last few pages, which may be why you don't see it. When a moderator sees it they have a decision to move it to another section of the board (for example, if you posted a recipe under the Coping section) or they can "pin" it. If a moderator pins something, it shows that they've read it...

ARCHIVED Support Group In Nyc
celiac3270 replied to erica's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks...I was just going to make a post regarding this.... -
Hi, A question about how to deal with dairy: I do not have any allergies to dairy/casein/lactose or lactose intolerance or anything like that, but like many Celiacs in the recovery stage, I react to dairy....in large amounts. For example, at the beginning of the diet, I ate a big bowl of gluten-free ice cream.....and I got sick that night from the dairy...

ARCHIVED What Does This Mean
celiac3270 replied to eternity's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mildly positive....I think that means that they were borderline....probably positive, but not definite...mildly positive doesn't mean mild effects on the intestines. All three should be gluten-free. Second, that is REALLY, REALLY stupid that they ask you based upon symptoms. They may not have symptoms now, but they're going to later. Arthritis, cancer... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Symptoms Went Away?
celiac3270 replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's hard. You start off in the beginning and go "this is impossible" or "this food stinks". Then you get into the groove...find good foods, really understand the diet and disease, and then it gets hard again...not following the diet, but dealing with the symptoms. I thought I'd be free in 2-3 months when I started. I was diagnosed in February, decided...
