Well here are some places I ended up going to on my trip...I went down to the "seafood grotto" # 8 near fisherman's wharf area on Taylor at Jefferson. My favorite place was NEXT to Alioto's Restaurant outside and I think it was called Sebella's. There was a whole row of outdoor seafood bars. It was a great place to order from because the cooks were right...

Thanks, I appreciate your quick response. I'm looking up the addresses right now to LuLu and Now and Zen. I went to the link to the bay area celiacs. There doesn't seem to be much posted. Am I missing something? Most of the chains aren't in San Fran although good links when I'm elsewhere and the local restaurants don't seem to have been visited yet....

I am celebrating a very special date in San Fransico (staying downtown) and don't want to be stuck this time eating snacks out of my suitcase or grocery store. I would really like to be able to go out. Does anyone know any San Fransico Restaurants that have gluten-free options in the bay area?

I wasn't losing my mind the Ocean Spray warning was posted on "Foods Containing Gluten" on a table at Open Original Shared Link Maybe they have changed. I have never seen anything on the labels that would have alerted me. Glad you responded that you haven't had any problems. I'll get the courage to give it a try. I get so shy after being burned...

ARCHIVED Gf In China (?)
kristi replied to gooldenwending's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oops, don't know what happened to my last posting. Since my last post, I went to China for a mainland China for a month and returned. I found it a challenging place at least for a short trip. I was stuck with a tour group and preset menus so that was most of the battle right there...of fried, breaded, sauce thickened, cc stir fries, soy marinated meats... -
ARCHIVED Let's Talk Costco!
kristi replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jenvan, you made my day! It was delicous. No more sitting around the table for me eating plain dry chicken breasts while everyone else munches. Thanks! Reminded me of the "good-old-days" just in time for summer bbq season. kristi -
Thank for your help! Hey I have a question about the " ... I had a few Chopin and Cranberry cocktails there (confirmed it was Ocean Spray)." I thought that for some reason "Ocean Spray" was on the no-no list. I remember reading any kind of cranberry but that brand. Maybe I misunderstood. I will try and look up where I read it. It never made...

ARCHIVED Let's Talk Costco!
kristi replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought some Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce but I'm reading Modified Food Starch, "Sprices", Natural flavor, have you had it confirmed it's OK? I went to the site and couldn't tell. Looks yummy! -
Dug deeper on this site and found that "Socca Oven" was recommended. They have take out chick pea pizzas and they are located at Epicurious Garden on Shattuck Ave near the University of Berkeley. I'll have to give them a try! Kristi

ARCHIVED Let's Talk Costco!
kristi replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It has been soooo nice since packaging changed and they have to list main allergens at the bottom of ingredients! I frequently eat Costco's hot whole chickens and highly recommend them. They are gluten-free. I put them on top of their bulk salad greens. I haven't found anything off their cafe list I can have, if anyone finds out anything is OK please... -
Me too, next week, any ideas out there? Kristi

kristi replied to Lesliean's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Not all is freeze dried but here's my travel foods. Another thing I was REALLY glad to have in China was a small version of theTherma-Rest foam camping pad for sleeping. I don't sleep well on really hard beds. It was like gold to me.

ARCHIVED For Those Who Need Food Ideas For Long Road Trips

We got a seal-a-meal to package up my adult diapers. This really helped on the added bulk in my suitcase and makes them easy to transport. My stomach is a mess even back home (yours might be too if you are on this site) so I packed a REI type water filter and was glad I did even though the added weight is a drag. It seems funny that I filter bottled water but even small changes upset my system at this point. We got a seal-a-meal to package up my adult diapers. This really helped on the added...

Maybe because I was stuck traveling with a tour group all around the country I found China a little difficult. I was already gone before reading the current postings. Thanks for those who have added more!!! Most items served to me at restaurants were cross-cont., breaded and stir frys with sauce for our group meals. Things I found helpful: I was able...

ARCHIVED Used To Get Sick On Airplanes Or Car Trips
kristi replied to a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm so new to learning about this stuff. I typed in "dizzy" on the celiac.com search site and I now don't feel so alone. WOW. It effects a lot of us! I also found it interesting to look up "celiac artery" and "celia trunk" on Wikipedia, free site on the web. It shows a picture of the connection between the stomach and how it really has many arteries... -
ARCHIVED Dizziness
kristi replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I found it very interesting to go to "Wikipedia" a free encyclodedia on the web and actually look at the "Celiac Artery" and the "Celiac Trunk." Being that it is an artery, it might explain the racing heart and dizzy feelings. It is also interesting to see how it is surrounds and protrudes into the stomach. hmmmmm -
ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
kristi replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine started after getting vac shots and traveling to Central America. I got D there and took Cipro. I got home and was worse so they put me on more Cipro. Saw lots of docs and one put me on Flagyl. That put me in the ER. Haven't been the same since. -
ARCHIVED Metronidazole
kristi replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a very bad reaction to Flagyl. I called my doc but they said to stick with it and it was a "difficult" med. Well that wasn't great advice. It built up over several days until I spent all night in ER, shaking, high heart rate, lot of D, dizzy and fainting feelings, sweating, maybe there is a connection here. I thought I was going to die and the doctors... -
ARCHIVED What Does This Sound Like To You?
kristi replied to Jeagbenne's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get the same thing with pounding heart rate and bad dizzy spells. They come on very suddenly and I find them VERY scary. They don't have to do with not eating and I don't have problems with not enough body weight since I went gluten-free a year ago. Doctors have been NO help. If anyone learns more please post. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Used To Get Sick On Airplanes Or Car Trips
kristi replied to a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten-free for a year now and in the past did a lot of traveling. I am starting to feel better and am trying to tackle international trips again. I was very interested in your post. I too have had big unexplained dizzy spells a lot while I travel that take me down when others around me are fine. I could relate to your description as being...
