  1. My daughter was diagnosed in 2006 with Celiac disease. She's been doing well until just a few months ago. Part of the problem is her deodorant...she's getting swollen red, tremendously itchy rashes with solid white deodorants/antiperspirants but gels don't seem to bother her ... yet. What's the difference? What's a recommended gel/roll-on brand that doesn...
  2. My understanding is that Rice Krispies have malt flavoring in them...
  3. We've discovered that we really enjoy getting a smoothie or juice "concoction" at Juice It Up. I thought it would be at least sort-of gluten-free from what I could see. When I e-mailed the company, their response to me was that their drinks were not gluten-free. When I asked them what ingredients they used that categorized them as non-gluten-free, they...
  4. Yeah! I'm so glad I found this thread! I've been wondering about Starbucks and have been too afraid to take my daughter there for a "treat" for fear that she would get sick or we'd have to walk out when a gluten-free request was frowned upon. We shall visit with vim and vigor again!
  5. I think we've worked our way through every gluten-free bread made! My daughter grudgingly accepted some, turned her nose up at others, but so far, her "favoritest" is Kinnikinnick's bread mix. It's incredibly easy to make. My daughter is 10 and is making a loaf a week for herself...with a little supervision, of course! It seems to have a more "normal...
  6. My daughter's favorites are Koala Crisp and Arrowhead Mills Maple Buckwheat Flakes. I'm afraid to eat too much of her stuff because of the cost and difficulty in getting most of it, but he maple buckwheat flakes that I tasted, were actually quite good!
  7. We quit using most bbq sauces since most of the companies told us that even if the sauce's ingredients are gluten-free, they are still all prepared on the same line as their wheat products. We only buy bbq sauce that states "gluten free."
  8. We also buy Kinnikinnick breads. My daughter actually LIKES it! They also have a bread and bun mix (white) that is super easy to make...looks normal...and tastes good too! It doesn't seem to be as dry either. the mix is my daughter's favorite. I do everything on-line and have it shipped to me. The company has been GREAT to deal with and I get faster...
  9. It's good to know I'm not alone! I have been carrying snacks for her in my purse 'cause when we're out shopping or something, then mealtimes usually differ. Your symptoms sound a lot like my daughters...glad someone out there understands...even if I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the problem. And yes...ditto on the bread!
  10. My daughter, 10, was diagnosed almost a year ago with celiac disease. She's been gluten-free ever since. However, if she doesn't eat at EXACTLY the right time, she doubles up with a stomach ache and it seems to take her 30 minutes to recover once she does slowly start to eat. Is this a celiac-related thing or just the way her body works? Last night she...
  11. Every brand of spaghetti sauce states "tomato paste." Is there a specific brand of spaghetti sauce where the tomato paste doesn't include wheat flour? I have yet to see a brand of spaghetti sauce where it states what makes up their tomato paste so I just haven't bought any. I would love to have some on-hand in the pantry for one of those "quick fix" meals...
  12. Time has gotten away from me and I failed to check the messages here 'til today! Whoops. Thanks for your input - my mind doesn't get as carried away when there's input coming from another source!! She's still getting headaches. I can't think of any perfumes, paints, in the house...her whiteboard markers might be bothering her but that wouldn't explain...
  13. My daughter is 10. Before her diagnosis she would get pale and complain of a stomach ache pretty much every time we ate...then she'd spend 20 minutes in the bathroom and not eat anymore even though she wasn't full. She has only complained of a stomachache once...maybe twice...since we've gone gluten free. It's just been the past month that the headaches...
  14. My daughter was diagnosed in April this year with celiac disease. The last month she's been complaining about fairly consistent headaches. Ibuprofen and tylenol seem to work but I would like to find out what the underlying cause is...if I can. Does anyone out there have any information as to whether her headaches are related to the celiac disease or not...
  15. My understanding was that only after 4:00 they don't allow kiddos...but they do for breakfast and lunch. Does that sound right? I guess I'll just look 'em up and call them directly. My daughter is 9.
