  1. I am 4.5 months pregnant and this is what I have concluded from talking with my Dr. and reading online: when your baby is first born you can do the gene test which consists of swabbing its mouth with a cotton ball and sending it off for testing. This way if the baby does have the celiac gene, then you will know to watch for signs once gluten is introduced...
  2. I am 9 weeks pregnant, and I find that the only "cravings" I am having are for things that I cannot have. I recently found out that I have a dairy intolerance, in addition to celiac (became apparent with the pregnancy). So recently, I have found myself frustrated and upset because I want things like fried chicken, and po-boy sandwhichs. (yes, i live in...
  3. Thanks, Gail for the much needed information. I am going to talk more with my dr. but for now I am going to avoid msg at all costs! I totally agree, it made the gluten attacks seem tolerable. I can deal with the D, but these rapid heart beats make me feel like I am dying. Thanks again and hopefully this will be the end of the attacks!
  4. Actually, I have been struggling with this as well. I have had celiac for a year now and only recently has it effected my heart. I have been monitored, and it seems as though there are no heart problems. I find that it happens during the digestion process. My doctor seems to think it may be related to MSG. For some reason, some Celiac patients cannot...
  5. Hello, ok I am completely on the same page. I have been married 3 years and I am 28yrs. old and the big question now is am I ready for pregnancy. I have had celiac for 1 year now, and I would say that I have been truly gluten free for about 6 months now( I live in New Orleans and Katrina made it quite hard to be gluten free while living in friends homes...
  6. Noticed your signature at the bottom...Just curious as to why you have not had and endoscopy? How can you be sure that you have Celiac? Is the difference in the diet that severe? I have positive everything and at first I barely felt better. Now I am slowly getting progressively better, but everyone always says that it is like night and day--regular diet...
  7. I experienced similar problems...I was beyond tired all the time. Now that I am better, I can look back and realize how horribly tired I was. I just thought it was normal. In regards to how fast gluten can come on...I think that the more you deprive your body of it, the more intense/faster it will come on. A year ago when I ws diagnosed, I KNOW now that...
  8. I had the same issue with my drs. One thought I had it, another thought I did not. My best advice would be to see another dr. and get another opinion. The whole diet thing about immediately feeling better also was confusing bc it took me a while to feel better, or to realize what feeling good actually was. Ask to see your records if you haven't already...

    ARCHIVED Mayo Clinic Celiac Center

Excuse me for my ignorance as I am new to Celiac and this message board! In regards to the Mayo Clinic, what made you decide to go there? Did you start a gluten free diet and not get better, or did you begin to have other side effects, or did you go there to get initially diagnosed? I am just curious because I have been having "episodes" of severe heart...
  10. Sorry, for the other post that simply copied a previous post...I am new at this. Anyway, I have had Celiac for about a year now and have seen numerous doctors who seem to disagree and agree with one another about whether or not I actually have Celiac. The final conclusion is that I do have it (blood test positive, biopsy positive, and DNA test positive...
