  1. Maryanne: Even if the school would be required to provide your son with a gluten-free meal (which is a big if), they would not be required to provide him with the gluten-free meal of his choosing (i.e. they could choose to do a chicken breast as you had asked). I am assuming that Nicholas attends public school, or at least a school that receives federal...
  2. last I was there, some time ago, Waffle House hash browns were gluten-free, but I would always double check before eating again. Richard is totally right about being able to see your food prepared at Waffle House, which is helpful. Kim.
  3. I understand there is a store in Philadelphia -- dietary shoppe -- that has lots of gluten-free foods.
  4. Welcome Sonya. Potatoes are fine -- they are gluten free. Regarding the bread, there are some decent gluten free bread mixes out there that you can use in your bread machine. good luck. Kim.
  5. I've been gluten free for over 5 years. Until recently, I was a lawyer with a hectic schedule and didn't have too much time to cook. I also like the Tinkiyada pasta (Whole Foods does carry it). Also, kinnikinnick has ready made gluten free bread (it's the only ready made bread I will eat -- it's good. If your store doesn't have it, you can order online...
  6. The endoscopy is nothing to worry about -- it really is painless. I didn't feel a thing and don't remember it at all. Thyroid issues can be common for celiacs so it is good to have your doctor keep an eye on that and do the blood test with your annual blook work up. If it becomes a problem, usually it just requires taking a pill to correct it -- also...
  7. I take Culturelle as my probiotic and it is gluten free. I was warned that the first week or two of taking probiotic, you can have diarrhea, but after that you normalize.. Good luck. Kim.
  8. Yorkshire makes the gluten-free chicken nuggets. Last I checked, Kraft mac and cheese -- the cheese sauce packet itself NOT the pasta -- is Gluten Free. so you can cook your own gluten-free pasta in whatever shapes you prefer and then use that cheese sauce packet, milk and butter. PB & J on gluten-free bread such as Kinnikinnick white sandwich...
  9. Hi Murda. The next meeting of the Gwinnett Group will be July 10 (Saturday). I don't have the time yet (probably 10 or 11 am, but not sure yet). I'll post the information once it's confirmed. Hope to see you there. Kim.
  10. Thanks, I did check that out but it doesn't have all of them listed and I was hoping other people might know of some. Thank you though. Kim.
  11. If anyone is aware of any gluten free food fairs, I would really appreciate you letting me know where and when they are, and if you have a contact person, that would be awesome. Thanks so much for the help. Kim.
  12. I was under the impression that in the US it can't be modified with wheat or it would have to list as modified food starch. I was under the impression that all modified corn starch is Gluten Free. In fact, in the US, it is cheaper to use corn rather than wheat so most modified food starch is actually corn based, and gluten free, but when it is listed as...

    ARCHIVED Fantastic Pizza In Ny

I heard Donatos has a gluten-free crustless pizza. I don't have Donatos near me so I can't confirm or say if it's good. Kim.

ARCHIVED Dh And Cd At Work

If you are in the US, and work for a large enough employer, invoke your rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. You may be better off speaking with someone from HR who should be more able to accommodate you.
  15. Richard, It's good to hear you had a good experience with the character breakfast. We did indicate when making all of our reservations that we needed gluten free -- we must have just caught the wrong hostess/chef for our character meal.
  16. Lisa, what state are you in? Kim.
  17. There seems to be some confusion about what has gluten and what does not. Buckwheat, despite it's unfortunate name, is not related to wheat and has no gluten. It is related to rhubarb and is absolutely fine for a gluten free diet. Millet, Tef, Sorghum (Jowar), Quinoa, Amaranth, and Wild Rice are all Gluten Free. Brown Rice (and all rice) is gluten...
  18. I got a flyer with the following information at a local health food store and thought I would share the information. I am NOT an organizer and, unfortunately, can't provide you with any further information. Attention Parents of Children with Celiac Disease A new celiac disease support group for children and families is forming in Atlanta. We invite...
  19. Also, the issue with oats is crosscontamination in the US because they rotate fields and then some wheat gets into the oats. With US made products, you only need to look for gluten-free. Most of the gluten-free food manufacturers can tell you if their product is also egg free. Good luck. Kim.
  20. MaryanneQ: Mariann has given you so excellent advice and a great place to start. I agree that the Kinnikinnick breads (ready made) are quite good. I just do a big shipment and keep them in the freezer. The tapioca rice bread is also good (in addition to the ones already listed) and I like the hamburger/hot dog buns. There are gluten-free chicken nuggets...

    ARCHIVED Fast Food

Although corporate offices may say some fries are gluten free, I am always concerned about cross contamination when they use the same fryers. I strongly recommend asking at that particular location each time to be sure. I have had contaminated fries at Burger King, and other times/locations, no problem. Having said that, I had good luck at Fuddruckers...

    ARCHIVED Morton's Steakhouse

Morton's has an "au juice" that they put on all their steaks and it is NOT gluten free. I've been stung there before because their own staff wasn't aware so you have to order your steak without the sauce.
  23. I would insist on working it out ahead of time. I have had lousy experiences when I wait until I get there (not on Carnival but other places) and if they just don't get it, you're stuck with no other options. What about sending some gluten free food there ahead of time (i.e., bread or bread mixes, brownie mix, etc.) Good luck, Kim.
  24. I was in Disneyworld (Florida) with my nieces and nephew (all of us are celiac) last August. We did fairly well. I strongly recommend making the reservations ahead of time and indicating the gluten-free needs. Some, but not all, of the nicer restaurants at Disney, have gluten-free rolls (which are by Cybros?) which are very good. We did go to Rainforest...
  25. I've travelled to many places, including Russia, without incident. I bring with me a gluten free card in the appropriate language, which I hand to the server and they usually take it to the chef, and then return it to me. good luck. Kim.
