  1. There is actually a researcher in California working on just such a pill -- my understanding is that it could be possible in the future. Kim.

  4. Be careful with the Millet bread -- if it's Deland Bakery, they've got contamination issues. Kim.
  5. You really need to contact your university's disability liason so they will make exceptions for you. Those restrictions are inexcusable unless they are willing to prepare gluten free (and non-contaminated) meals for you. Also, you could purchase a nice toaster oven. Mine broils and bakes just like a real oven -- just smaller. I highly recommend it...
  6. I went to Paris several years ago with the French language card. I had no problems whatsoever. I ate many phenomenal meals and really enjoyed myself. Even the little bistros were fine -- I had some wonderful French onion soup (minus the bread but with the cheese) and did not feel restricted in the least. Have a great trip. Kim.
  7. The Atlanta area celiac support group, Gluten Sensitive Support Group (GSSG), is sponsoring a gluten-free vendor fair. The event is being held Saturday September 11, 2004 from 11 AM - 2:00 PM. Anyone is welcome to attend. There is...

  9. For products manufactured outside the US, maltodextrin could be an issue and should be checked with the manufacturer. Kim.
  10. I use Montina and I like it very much. The Montina pure should be mixed with some other gluten-free flours -- it's not a stand-alond kind of flour. It's a great way to add some protein and fiber to your diet. The Montina Flour mix (already mixed with other gluten-free flours) has a great ginger cookie recipe. Some of the mainstream product mixes use...
  11. Also, as long as your child is having the biopsy, ask the doctor to be sure that s/he is taking at least 6-7 samples while in there. some docs only take one and that's not enough because that one could happen to be an undamaged spot. good luck. Kim.
  12. You could be very correct. It usually takes at the very least, a couple weeks, before you'll notice some "better"diapers. Just try to stick with the new diet, which can be challenging. You will (as we all have) make some mistakes and give gluten to your child by mistake -- it happens to us all. Once Natalie is fully healed (could be a year), she'll better...
  13. It is gluten-free. No questions are dumb. Kim.
  14. Last I checked, Tums are NOT gluten free. Kim.
  15. I don't know a doctor in Alabama, however, you could call Dr. Cynthia Rudert's office (Atlanta). She is an expert in celiac and hopefully can give a referral for a doctor in Montgomery area. Good luck. Kim, Atlanta, GA P.S. We're having a gluten free vendor fair on Sept. 11 at the Gwinnett Medical Center from 11 am - 2 pm with over 35 vendors represented...
  16. Amy's also has a canned tomato soup that is gluten-free and quite good. Kim, Atlanta, GA
  17. Catfish: the Kitchenaid pasta attachments cannot be immersed in water.
  18. Janine: I think it would be pretty hard to clean since it can't be immersed in water. I guess I would brush it really well and then run a batch of gluten-free pasta dough through it several times to pick up the gluten that's left, and then throw out that batch. Then, use it. That's the best I can come up with -- but I know the attachments are expensive...
  19. To my knowledge, stickers are fine. Certainly used by lots of gluten-free kids without incident. I think there are a lot of other things to worry about, I'd not worry about those. Good luck. Kim.

    ARCHIVED Dr In Cincinnati/n.ky

For adults, try Dr. Gail Bon Giovanni (or Dr. Michael Kreines). for children, try Dr. Hiuby (pronounced Hibe, not sure on spelling -- affiilated with Children's Hospital). Also, you can contact the local celiac support group for other suggestions. Jungle Jim's has a good gluten-free selection and is in the process of building it out and expanding substantially...
  21. I don't know how they're going to become educated about the severity of the problem when every article I've seen has said this is a rare disease. I think they all just picked it up from Associated Press and AP did a lousy job of researching celiac .
  22. Generally, even where it is acceptable to bring in your own, you should bring in an unopened package of pasta. Kim, Atlanta.
  23. The gold standard for diagnosis is the biopsy. That's why your peds want to have one done -- to be sure. Often, insurance companies won't pay for an endoscopy (biopsy) if you don't have blood tests first. They do put the child under so it is a painless procedure. As for doing a biopsy after your child has already been gluten-free, you may not get accurate...
  24. Stacy: It sounds like you have your hands full. I have no business handing out advice, but I'll go ahead.. I would try very hard to keep him in school and not home school. I would meet with the teacher and principal and ensure that they fully understand the significance of vigilantly watching him. There's no reason why they can't do art projects with...
  25. I'm so glad you all are excited. Please let everyone you know know about it. We have well over 30 vendors coming from as far away as Canada, Montana, Iowa, and New York.... And for attendees, I know we'll have at least some people travelling good distances, including from Texas and Knoxville, TN. There will be LOTS of free samples, coupons and brochures...
