Suzie-GFfamily's Achievements

  1. There is obviously more consistency within this group for the tool that was chosen- a hammer. This "experiment" illustrates how our minds store/organize/retrieve information- which is a branch of psychology known as cognitive psychology. A hammer is a prototypical example of a tool for the vast majority of people- and when asked to provide an example...
  2. Thanks missy'smom Dh thinks everything is fine, but I worry. Part of being a mom.
  3. Valerie, My 9 yr old had 1 pos blood test for celiac and 1 neg blood test (both were done before he went gluten free and his total serum IgA was normal). The endoscopy/biopsy was positive for celiac. He's having trouble with things if he has to make a written response to a question, especially if he needs to write more than 1 or 2 sentences. Making...
  4. My husband, the non-celiac in our family, has Gilberts. I tried to find a link between celiac and Gilberts last year when we discovered that at least 2/3 of our children are celiac. There is celiac disease on my side of the family for sure, but I suspect it could be on my husband's side also. So far, he and his mom have tested negative.
  5. I am sooooooooo excited about this news. I can't wait to call the Kelsey's here in London. I used to enjoy eating there before, but I haven't gone since I went gluten-free.
  6. I remember being concerned about a similar ingredient in Bicks mustard pickles and had to call the 1-800 number- it was either mustard flour or mustard bran??? Anyway- it was gluten-free. Apparently ALL Bicks pickles are gluten-free.
  7. Barkat makes gluten-free waffle cones. We haven't tried them yet. Suzie
  8. I have 3 children- 9 yrs, 6 yrs and 17 months. I had the standard triple screen test with my first, and declined it with my second because I wasn't comfortable with the false positive rate (it was too high for my comfort). However, on the 18 week ultrasound of my 2nd child there were abnormalities in some of her heart valves that were considered to be a...
  9. I always thought this is how I am too, and when my son started showing similar problems in school I just thought... it must be genetic! Of course, it probably is, and could be due to celiac disease in both of us. I didn't have problems finishing tests- there was always enough adrenaline for me to concentrate well in those types of situations- it was studying...
  10. I've read that celiac disease can be associated with neurological problems, including attention deficit type problems. One of my children (plus myself too) has difficulty concentrating- especially things like written composition. They also have problems remembering to complete assigned tasks, get notes signed, return permission forms, etc. There doesn...
  11. That's OK lm, not a problem at all. I appreciate your helpfulness! Suzie
  12. If it was my child, I'd sit down and have a talk with him. What does your son want to do? He is the one who might cheat on the diet, or not cheat. Give him the power to make the decisions about diagnosis, this might then empower him to take control of the treatment too. Tell him you've been diagnosed with celiac disease. Celiac disease is genetic....
  13. Thanks for the links and the recipes lm ) Google is definitely my friend and I often get recipes from places like allrecipes.com- they have lots and lots of good ones, don't they? I was just curious about how someone would go about making a tomato soup from a tin of paste. Most tomato soup recipes that I'm familiar with use fresh tomoatoes (which...
  14. Why don't you trust Bob's Red Mill brand? Have people had problems with their gluten-free flours? We've been using Bob's brown rice, white rice, tapioca, potato, amaranth, sorghum and teff flours. I thought it would be safe because they test the product to verify that it is gluten-free. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any noticeable reactions to...
