  1. My 22 month old was tested for celiac with constipation as his main symptom. He has a HUGE fruit and veggie diet... seriously 80+% of his diet is fruit and he's still constipated and has to be treated with Miralax. His blood test came back negative but the Dr's say it wasn't accurate because he doesn't have much gluten in his diet anyway.
  2. What type of growth delay is usually seen in kids with celiac?? Is it primarily weight?? or can it be height?? I was at the ped's today with my 4 year old son for ear infection #4 since his tubes fell out in January (erg... whole other story) and she commented on how small he is and looked at his growth curve. I knew he hadn't grown in the past year...
  3. My youngest son just had a negative TTG about a month ago but still def has A LOT of symptoms which are not going away despite doing everything the Dr recommended (chronic constipation, foul smelling poops, sometimes alternates with diarrhea, occasional blood and mucus in his poop, low weight gain (not ftt though), refusal to eat, ezcema, chronic ei's, mild...
  4. Normal!! She wouldn't give me the number but said it was less than 16 and that over 19 was considered positive. Now what??
  5. Hmmm... another interesting thread!! Gosh do I wish I'd found this place years ago!! They just tested my youngest son (22months) for celiac last week and we are still waiting for the results. But reading this thread I IMMEDIATELY tought of my older son who's 4. We seriously call him Jekyl and Hyde on a regular basis and have for years! He can be...
  6. How old was your child when they were diagnosed?? What symptoms did they have that led you to test?? And did they have many symptoms as a baby or did they start "suddenly" later on?? Just curious!! Thanks!!
  7. Interesting... my son often has yellow poop... varying from very pale to almost flourescent. I never really thought much of it!!
  8. Our ped called today and said that Matthew's CBC and Sed rate came back normal (didn't get numbers as my husband spoke with her while I was out). She said we won't have the TTG back for a few days still but she will call as soon as they get the results. I am just wondering if that is reassuring that he wasn't anemic and didn't show sinces of inflamation...
  9. My son has actually never been out of Ohio Now thats not to say that parasites can't take a free ride into here on our foods but we definitely haven't been any place exotic.
  10. I took Matthew into the ped's today to try to get help with all of our issues... chronic constipation turned into going back and forth between diarrhea and constipation, over sleeping and tiring easily (he's been sleeping 16+ hours a day), not eating, still breaking out in hives/rashes, etc. We weren't able to see our regular ped (who I love) because he...
  11. Hmmmmm... I never associated his chronic ear infections with celiac?? He's had 11 in his short little life and may have been antibiotic resistant. He's had tubes twice now He does have food allergies... peanuts, tree nuts, vanilla, and green pepper... but we have most of those removed from his diet now (still struggling to completely remove vanilla...
  12. I am just wondering if all kids who are diagnosed as celiac are failure to thrive. My son is small but definitely not ftt. He's gaining weight and staying on his growth curve at around the 10th percentile. He's gone from almost 19lbs at a year to about 24lbs at 22 months... so he's gained 5lbs in 10 months which is a good weight gain I think. He's got...
  13. I visited these boards this time last year when our GI dr was debating testing my youngest for celiac. He never did end up testing him but now I am wondering whether I should push for it?? He's 21 months old now. This time last year he wasn't gaining weight (at all) and was falling completely off the growth charts. He had chronic constipation issues that...
  14. I was on these boards about 6 months ago trying to figure out what was going on with my son and started questioning if I might have celiac too the more I read. Well, I was started on Glucophage XR a few months ago to help with some mild insulin resistance (pcos) well I've recently noticed that these pills are coming out whole not broken down AT ALL.....
  15. He weaned himself from breastmilk at 9 months. At that time we thought he had a dairy allergy so it turned out for the best. He had allergy testing done and came back negative for everything except peanut (but that is a whole otehr story) He was only Alimentum up until his birthday 2 weeks ago and is now on whole milk. Our GI Dr said that it **can...
  16. Thank you so much!! Wow this is a WONDERFUL message board!! You all have really helped me here!! I think I am going to request a blood test for myself. Our GI specialist just told me last week he didn't want to test my 1 year old just yet... he wants to give him a year because even though he is small he is gaining weight. I figure if I get a diagnosis...
  17. I've just started researching celiac because its being tossed around for my 1 year old. I noticed that I too have a lot of the symptoms of it as well. I get little red, intensly itchy (esp in the morning) blisters on my hands but no where else on my body?? They sting too and hurt if they are popped. Could that be DH???
  18. Is this a symptom of celiac??? The Dr's have thrown around the idea of testing my 1 year old for celiac but haven't yet. He's only in the 5th percentile for weight but eats NON STOP... more than most school age children it seems!! He's short too, has chronic constipation issues, reflux, very gassy, is very irritable, and is not digesting much of the food...
  19. After doing lots of research about celiac when our pediatric GI mentioned testing my 1 year old for it I started to realize that I too have a lot of the symptoms... except I am definitely not underweight like they often describe. Can you be overweight and still have celiac???
  20. We are still trying to figure out what is going on with my one year old son and celiac is something our GI Dr mentioned testing him for (along with hirschprungs) the last time we were in there so I am trying to gather more info before we got back June 1st. He's had problems with chronic constipation since he was pretty young but it got SIGNIFICANTLY worse...
