ARCHIVED Hi, I Am New And Looking For Any Help With Mold Allergy
BRUMI1968 replied to a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Peanut butter almost always 100% of the time has mold. (and peanuts in general) -
ARCHIVED Paleolithic Diet
BRUMI1968 replied to Mally-bug's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You reminded me of what I'd say about paleo. I think I very much benefit from not eating most grains - and no beans and no refined sugar. I went over a month w/o a drop of sugar a couple weeks ago; then we had some guests and they brought gluten-free pastries they had bought special in Vancouver, so I felt compelled to eat them. Now I'm weaning off sugar... -
ARCHIVED Paleolithic Diet
BRUMI1968 replied to Mally-bug's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I tried it an conceptually like it. But too many nuts bug me. Also, I had a hard time keeping on weight. When winter rolled around, i added potato and millet bread to keep warm/fat. If you have weight to lose, I think it's an awesome healthy diet. Expensive, though, it can be. Especially if you get organic. Good luck. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free In Port Townsend Or Port Ludlow, Wa?
BRUMI1968 replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The food coop in PTownsend lists it's allergens - in the deli part. They also often have raw food choices there, which are really good. You should not have a problem if you go to the co=op. It's right off the main drag. In the summer, they often have grilled salmon, though I don't know if it's gluten-free. Have fun. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Live In Or Near Port Angeles, Wa
BRUMI1968 replied to Shez30's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I used to live in Port Townsend. There is some gluten free stuff at the co-op there. Does P.A. have a food co-op or natural foods store? I see on the web a "Good To Go" natural foods store, as well as "Country Air Natural Foods". I don't know if either is good, but often healthfood stores have stocks of gluten free stuff. They would also be likely to... -
ARCHIVED Do You Think Onset Of Acute Bout Of Celiac Disease Is Triggered By Exercise?
BRUMI1968 replied to sandylulu's topic in Sports and Fitness
INteresting. Malabsorption of nutrients needed to avoid muscle cramping maybe? Not sure. Anyway, glad you got diagnosed, and can start eating right. Good luck to you. -
ARCHIVED Lundberg Rice Chips
BRUMI1968 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey all. anyone get glutened from Lundberg Rice Chips? i ate the mustard flavored ones. -
Yeah. Based on the fact that I still feel terrible (sleepy, stupid, stomach, bowels), I'm thinking it must've been gluten. I'm going with the salmon burger dinner or the Lundberg Rice chips - both of which claimed to be gluten-free, but who knows for sure. It's just extra irritating because eating seems to exacerbate my feeling icky, and I'm wasting...

Same bacon as always: beelers gluten free. The one possible gluten source was the day before: Lundberg Rice Chips, which are supposed to be gluten free, but I've heard on here otherwise. Gluten would explain the extreme fatigue and weird brains...I just wonder what the difference is between pancreas related problems/D, and gluten ones. Could it be the...

Okay...so when I was camping the other day (and shortly after eating a huge amount of bacon fat), I had to run to the lovely pit toilet and deposit some terrible poop, that I can only assume was fluffy, like the last time I had a bacon reaction -- based on the smell and the feel (you can't really look into a pit toilet to gauge the damage). So today (...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Problem With Constipation?
BRUMI1968 replied to marlene57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ditto on the raised feet. Squatting is the natural posture for pooping. i sometimes move our magazine rack to in front of the toilet and put my feet on it. Not only does it help with C, it also helps get all the poop out, instead of leaving some in there for next time. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Problem With Constipation?
BRUMI1968 replied to marlene57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry, I meant eating the actual spice, not pills. I wasn't very clear. I eat turmeric pills as well. -
I just want to add something as well. Although my story differs in symptoms (keep the bloat, but reverse the D), I went undiagnosed for 35 years (diagnosed at 37) and now have been gluten free for more than a year, as has my whole family in support (in the house, anyway). A couple months ago, I noticed that I had started doing more things I hadn't done...

This really depends on the breed. If your dog can handle running, it's probably really good for them. But if they have short legs, short noses (hence, trouble breathing), or short stamina, not such a good idea. For example, a lot of people hurt their dogs taking them mountain biking. Only a few breeds can handle that much exercise at once. Running, though...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Problem With Constipation?
BRUMI1968 replied to marlene57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe you would have difficulty getting enough turmeric to have effect. It is an anti-inflammatory, once in the system, as effective as asprin. That is probably part of why it works for C. (I had never tried it for C.) Plus, it is very orange. You might turn orange if you ate a lot of it, I don't know. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chocolate?
BRUMI1968 replied to kalila's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A great gluten-free nice chocolate is DAGOBA. It's a bit pricey, but is gluten free. I think some Hersheys might also be gluten-free - but I only eat Dagoba, since it only has all natural ingredients, uses fair trade chocolate, and is, I think, organic. Good luck. It's nice to hear you care so much and want to be helpful. -
ARCHIVED My Step Dad Just Diagnosed
BRUMI1968 replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis

Okay. My step dad, who has given me nothing but grief about my weird celiac-eating habits (bringing my own cutting board to their house), has been diagnosed with DH. (Never mind my not very nice yet nonetheless slight feeling that karma has been exacted.) He's getting blood tested for Celiac on Thursday. Any advice I can give him on starting the gluten...

WOW! Looks like a catfish. Looks heavy too. Did you also see him/her move the fish so that it aligned with his/her body for better flying? I love that ospreys do that; have never seen it up close. Congrats to you!!!! -Sherri -
ARCHIVED Guitar/chord Question
BRUMI1968 replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you! I'm so green, I don't know much...but every time I practice that chord I like so well, I feel, well, unsatisfied. So thanks a ton! Ow...my fingers hurt! -
Okay...my man and I just bought guitars. I found this chord I really like: A major 7th. But it sounds like it's leading to something -- you know, like some sort of resolution should be played right after it. WHAT IS THAT RESOLUTION? Help! (I need some music theory to go with my very sore fingers). p.s. just for curiosity sake - I bought an acoustic...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Your Teeth
BRUMI1968 replied to bloatedntexas's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have stunning enamel, and have only one cavity in 39 years. But so does my grandmother. We don't have such great gums, though. -
I have pretty weak legs too, but part of that is because my torso and my legs don't get along, thanks to a crazy pelvis. I just started physical therapy, so hopefully it will get better. Maybe try pilates to strengthen the whole body, to see if you get the top and bottom working together to take some of the pressure off your leg muscles. -Sherri

You are not crazy. We don't have llamas - but we live in suburbia. We hope to get one or two or three when we move to Montana and have sheep or goats. Good luck to you! -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed For 2 Months. Miss Sandwiches. Help?
BRUMI1968 replied to geeze's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Meat rollups are good. and BLT salad is pretty good. as to replacement bread, I like the Millet Bread by Food For Life. My DH likes it too, more than regular bread. BUT everyone has their preferences in the gluten-free bread zone. I find that I shouldn't eat too much bread anyway, but BLT's - that's mine too. Yum. I just had one yesterday.
