  1. A great book to check out is the Schwarzbein Principle. Not always the easiest to understand because she talks about very complex things like how the adrenals work and the many factors such as stress and lack of sleep that can contribute to weight gain. Also, healthy fat is very important in the diet.
  2. How about some beans (refried or boiled) and avocado with the eggs. The avocado has fat and that will help hold you a little longer. Six hours is a long time to go without food. If you don't like avocados, nuts have carbs, protein and fat. A perfect combo!
  3. I have been reading a book called the Nutraceutical Revolution by Richard Firshein, D.O. A very interesting book about the use of different supplements and how they can be used to heal the body with and without traditional medicine. He talks quite a bit about how people with irritated intestines (or leaky gut or dysbiosis) have to heal their guts before...
  4. Do you have a copy of the lab work done? Get it and do some research. A few years back I was freezing all of the time and I was starting to gain weight. My Mom, Aunt and her daughter are all hypothyroid. I told the doctor that I wanted to be tested because of the family tendency. He looked at me like I was a hypochondriac. He asked me if my hair was...
  5. If you read the posts here, you will see that many tested negative but found positive results going gluten free. You seem to have answered your own question when you said he seemed so much happier after only a couple of days. Maybe you could find someone who speaks Japanese and English to help you go through some of the products so you can find some that...
  6. Chako, I had IBS for years. I stopped eating bread a couple of years ago when my pants started getting too tight. Other than occasional pasta and pizza I didn't eat any wheat. When I started researching celiac for my husband, I started remembering all of the symptoms that I used to have that had gone away. I used to worry that I was getting ovarian...
  7. I think the reason for the increased risk of cancer for IBS, celiac, crohn's, etc. is the constant source of irritation and thus inflammation. They are now finding out that chronic inflammation predisposes you to cancer. That's why it is so important for people who consider themselves borderline gluten sensitive or those in denial to stop ingesting gluten...

It's a blood test that will check for thyroid hormones. Celiacs suffer from autoimmune diseases and hypothyroid is very common. Some symptoms are lack of energy, intolerance to cold, brittle hair, etc.

Have you had your thyroid checked?
  10. I don't know if Enterolab covers Canada. Worse come to worse you can plan a visit to the U.S. and have your son produce a stool sample here and send it off. Maybe they could send the box to your house and then you could travel to the U.S. I believe the delivery service only picks up on Monday through Wednesday to ensure delivery to the facility during...
  11. Sorry the diet was the Specific Carbohydrate Diet not Special Carbohydrate. Check out Breaking the Vicious Cycle. I know there is a group here that is following it.
  12. Hi, this is my first time logging on as I've been lurking for a while. My husband has been very ill the past six months with an autoimmune disease causing pulmonary fibrosis, vasculitis and other horrors. To make a long story short, I made a connection between a possible gluten sensitivity triggering at least part of his problems. I knew if we went the...
