  1. I have 3 children. 1st was male, 7 lbs 8.5oz 2nd - female, 7 lbs 2 oz 3rd - male, 8 lbs 12 oz - we call him "hoss." LOL! Oddly enough, at 2.5 - he's only 27 lbs. My "problems" didn't start until after my 3rd was born. I consider him my "trigger."
  2. Not necessarily. In some, there is a tolerance buildup that starts with GI symptoms. Intolerance, not allergy. However, yea... rice krispies (brand name) are not gluten free. I wasn't sure about the chicken salad, I've had chinese chicken salad that had NO soy sauce, so I missed that one. Whatever it is... I hope you are able to pinpoint it - quickly...
  3. Could it possibly be bloating and reaction from the peppers in the hot paste? Or, quite possibly an intolerance to nuts??? Nothing you've eaten is jumping out at me as a gluten issue. You are experiencing feelings of nausea, but you aren't really eating anything that's gluteny. Obviously, I'm not much help here. But if you said you'd had sandwiches...
  4. We've used Burt's Bee's diaper cream, and we love it. And it smells soooo good!
  5. Can you suggest that a sheet gets sent around inquiring about allergies? I cringe when I read Peanut M*M's, because there are SOOO many kids allergic to peanuts, and so many who might not be, but who might have siblings that are. And, with peanut allergies.... it doesn't necessary take ingesting the food to make the kid deathly ill. As much as I personally...
  6. WHY are they feeding them crap for snacks? Gosh, when my kiddos have been involved in sports (soccer, baseball) they were NOT allowed to have ANY junk like that. We were not allowed to bring anything other than fruit for my daughter's soccer. My son was only allowed things like fruit snacks/fruit, juice pops, rice krispie treats (yea... I know, not gluten...
  7. Or, jerky dads who are more competitive... in the "I couldn't play sports as a kid so I'm going to make sure my kid pummles all the other kids" way. He hasn't attempted any sports other than baseball and soccer, as of yet. He did take karate for 3 years, but gave it up because it conflicted with cubscouts, and he was really wanting to be a scout. We...
  8. I deal with anemia once a month... I also do not eat red meat and I don't eat much "pig" - but I do eat chicken and turkey. I've recently gone DF. I have children who are allergic to peanuts/all tree nuts, so we don't keep any in the house, ever. I'm starting to wonder how I'm going to get all the "necessaries" as well. I'm so glad you posted...
  9. My son is incredibly athletic, and he's good at every sport he plays. But, he's SOOOO ultra competitive that he can't handle anything less than perfection, and when there is a "goof" and he's not responsible, he gets soooo upset and angry. We've tried to curtail the competitivness, but his doctor says it's part of the nature of the beast, perfectionism ranks...
  10. I don't know the answer to any of your questions, except this last one. I'm have DQ2 - and I'm overweight. In fact, it wasn't until I went on the gluten-free diet, about a year after the birth of my 3rd child, that I finally started losing weight. Up until that point, I could not move an ounce of "baby weight." I've had weight issues my entire life. I...
  11. I have a 9 year old who has an Aspergers diagnosis. He's the model student in the classroom. He's very high functioning, almost to the point of being totally invisible to the teachers and other key personnel. He's a straight A student, he's on the math team, he plays the viola, he excels at every subject. (he does have a comorbid dx - 2, in fact... neither...
  12. LOL!!! =) FF, I'm glad to hear that your 9 year old isn't affected in school. Does he have any other intolerances or issues? I'm just curious, because I've had issues with my daughter in school, and she's only in half day kindergarten. Of course, she knows what she can/'t have, but she still often feels quite left out when kids have birthday treats that...
  13. Do you have the reference ranges? Without those, it's pretty difficult to tell. The lab results should also show "normal, equivocal, out of range" levels. If you have those to post, it'll be much easier for us to help. =)
  14. Asperger's isn't a disease. It's a neurobiological issue. Semantics, perhaps... but I just had to make that statement. I'm actually doing a research paper on the "invisibility" issue. Lots of kids with Aspergers appear to be totally "normal" to those on the outside. It's only those of us on the inside who are privileged to know their true selves. It can...
  15. I think for some... in fact, many, there is a question as to whether Celiac is the ONLY issue. And, as we all know... in many many cases, self diagnosis isn't a good thing. There are certainly some here who were forced to self diagnose due to various reasons. However, some folks really NEED that absolute, because it's the ONLY way they'll stick to the diet...
  16. What type of blood tests did you have? If you had a Celiac panel, they are looking for Celiac - by measuring gliadin antibodies, tissue transglutaminase antibodies, endomysial antibodies, and total IgA levels, since low IgA can throw the rest of the testing results off. We had to wait about a week for all of our results.
  17. Yes, one can be gluten intolerant without having Celiac Disease. However, the dietary requirements are exactly the same.... no wheat, no rye, no barley, EVER. Many believe that gluten intolerance is just a stepping stone to Celiac. I don't know either way. But, I do have a diagnosis of gluten intolerance. I do not have a diagnosis of Celiac Disease...
  18. My "Aspie" son was on the gluten-free diet for a year... with absolutely NO benefits at all. His doctors all agreed to allow gluten since we saw no benefit, and his diet is extremely self limited due to sensory issues. On the other hand.... my daughter, who is dairy, egg, nut, soy, gluten free still has behavioral "differences" and our team of doctors...
  19. I also wanted to add... you do not have to have a diagnosis of Celiac to have the ability to follow a gluten free diet in a hospital setting. If you are admitted, for whatever reason, simply tell them that you are gluten free. You'll have to examine your food options and scrutinize every little thing to make sure it IS gluten free, but they can't deny...
  20. That's good to know. I can get both of those things through specialty stores in our area. However, they are not widely available outside of specialty shops in the US.
  21. In the US, Cadbury is manufactured by Hershey - and apparently, nothing of Hershey's is safe anymore. I'll try to find the thread on it... but we've been told that they have NO IDEA what is in their "natural flavoring" since it's outsourced and proprietary. Of course, if any of the top 8 were in the ingredients, they'd be listed. But, of course.... barley...
  22. I've had the blood tests and the biopsy. Both were inconclusive, but both suggested that "something" was going on, even if the doctors could not quite put a name to it. I went on the gluten free diet, and have had a terrific dietary response. I went ahead and did the gene testing for my own benefit, so I could determine whether or not my genes might play...
  23. It's ok! I'm not upset with you, the whole thing is just incredibly frustrating. I'm absolutely positive my sister has Celiac. In fact, her doctor thinks so too! But, she's had the blood panel, and HER doctor says it's negative, yet... won't give her any numbers and doesn't want to test further. This is the same doctor who missed coronary artery disease in...
  24. The Starbucks in our area don't carry sandwiches. They do have pastry (not gluten-free, naturally) but they typically don't serve food.
  25. I have worked for WW, as a receptionist, after losing 70 lbs following the birth of my daughter. As a staff member, I was required to try the core plan for 2 weeks, before it was released to the public. I gained weight, consistently, while using this plan. The FF versions of the foods were making me SICK, SICK, Sick. I could NOT do it. I found that I'm...
