ARCHIVED Feeling Worse
lauradawn replied to marthasimmons's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Keep in mind too, if you took any medications for the flu. they may have had gluten in them. -
Brian, please keep in mind that you should NOT go gluten-free if you are going to have any testing done. It can alter your results. Also, many with Celiac, also experience sesitivities to other foods as well. Sometimes those things are corrected over time, but it is not uncommon. I would definately puruse this through your Dr.

Shirley, I have a quick question for you. You said you have issues with milk, do you have issues with cheese? I am suspecting ( not conclusively yet) that I seem to have problems if I drink milk, and yet I can I have cheese everyday, and have not noticed a problem with that. Does that even make sense?

ARCHIVED What Is Your Shopping Routine?
lauradawn replied to wwebby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My experience has been that i am able to get most of what I need from my local Walmart or Safeway. I sit down each week, figure out what I want for meals, and write down all ingredients. The only ones I need to buy at a health food store are the special flours, and sometimes I can get those at Safeway. I have purchased a couple baking type things from... -
ARCHIVED Insurance
lauradawn replied to tally's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with Dessa, according to your story, you have added gluten back in your diet. If you have Celiac, you cannot do that! Your risk for lymphomas, and other serious automimmune diseases is exremely high if you are ignoring the strict regime of gluten free eating. Celiac is controlled through a 100% gluten-free diet for LIFE! IF you are not doing... -

ARCHIVED Very Very Confused!
lauradawn replied to Raelynnsma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
WOW! I am so sorry to hear that you have gone through so much.! Your symptoms are very extreme and I tend to agree with Susan. I have done much research on the blood work, and although not an expert with it.....your blood work does not SEEM to indicate celiac disease based on what has been explained to me. The TTG is extremely sensitive to Celiac, and... -
Does anyone know if the Walmart brand of plain yogurt is gluten free???? the ingredients are a little different from the one that I usually buy, Yoplait. However, I need a plain yogurt for a recipe and it's the only plain yogurt I could find. I got it, but now I am unsure about using it. Does anyone know? They added gelatin to it. Is that a safe...

lauradawn replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know if it's safe or not, but if you call the company you could find out very quickly. -
These may not be fast food, but out to eat anyway. Boston Market is very gluten-free friendly as well as Chapotle. ( spelling?) I don't know if you have those around but they are quick and good. Keep in mind too, that there are a # of fast food places that offer the atkins friendly bunless burgers. If you can verify the fries are in a dedicated frier...

ARCHIVED Testing When Gluten Free?
lauradawn replied to Alexolua's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alexolua, If you have been gluten free since Nov when learning your results, please be aware that there is a good chance you will get a negative result from your biopsy. It's not a guarantee, but if you have Celiac, and your body has begun the healing process it may not show enough damage to be determined celiac now. One of my books explains that it... -

ARCHIVED At A Loss
lauradawn replied to sarahann's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That sounds like a good plan. Im glad the dietician was able to help. I really wanted to see one at first too, but was unable. My little boys just recently turned 2. They have some minor issues with food sensitivities, and since I have celiac disease I decided to have them tested as well. the blood work is not a big deal----( excpet for the actual... -

ARCHIVED How Long Till Gi Symptoms Abate?
lauradawn replied to Becky G.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Im sorry Becky. It's so hard when you are first starting. What are some of the foods that you like that you can't have? Maybe someone will have a good alternative for you. I found it kind of funny when I read your post, b/c I LOVE meat and always have. Recently I have been finding myself thinking that I am becoming a vegan since being on the diet. I... -
ARCHIVED Dairy
lauradawn replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dairy intolerance can cause similar symptoms as Celiac. Diarreah, constipation, gi discomfort....etc. However, a dairy intolerance is NOT life threatning in the sense that Celiac is. Some people can tolerate a little dairy, or certain kinds of dairy, but not alot. Others can not have any. It will depend much on your tolerant level. Also, many with Cleliac... -
Thank you very much! As much help as I can get. My family will be with me, and they will be eating whatever, and I just want things to be simple if I can.

ARCHIVED My Son May Have Celiac
lauradawn replied to Tinkerszs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From my experience I would guess the Dr will say that he is fairly confident it is not celiac. Doesn't mean that's a 100% accurate diagnosis, but if the other tests were negative............ My Dr explained to me that the higher # of IGG can be showing a number of things, such as a leaky gut, or other allergies... For my kids he thinks it is the diary... -
