  1. From my understanding if MSG is made from a company in the US it is fine. OF course some may have a reaction to it, but that's not from the gluten. Just an additional sensitivity.
  2. the IGG test can signify other things too, not just Celiac. I don't know much about DH but I agree form my understandding it can be very similar to lupus, but for different reasons. IT will be interesting to see what they find out, but here's another suggestion. If your rash is acutally DH, a biopsy of the rash will diagnose you Celiac. You wouldn't have...
  3. was it the IGG or IGA???? If it's the IGG that can signify many different things.. It's not used alone in determining Celiacs. There are c aouple other tests that go along with it to determine if it could be Celiac or not. Formula can have gluten in it, as well as if he was nursing at all. If you were eating gluten it would pass through the milk. ...

I think the point is that you always need to be cautious. Each individual may decide to do it a little different...but for my opinion. You do NOT need to throw your baking wear away. Make sure they are cleaned good and you should be fine. If you have things like a pasta machine or a bread machine, where there are parts that is not possible to get completely...
  5. Just remember to give it enough time. It's hard when you have to wait a while, but you could determine it's not a problem when it is, but it was still in your system.
  6. I have heard a couple times now something about enriched rice. What is the concern and is there a way to know if it's a problem? How many of you just avoid all together?
  7. oh forgot! I spice up my rice cereal with bananas and sugar and cinnamon. Really good!
  8. Christine, I dont' know if you have a Walmart near you but their GV brand of Worchestershire sauce is also gluten-free!!!
  9. I know there may be some different feelings about this....but I think that it most definately passes through the breast milk. The proteins in an offending food can cause harm to a baby. I nursed my twins for several months. They both had severe issues, but we were unable to pinpoint what the allergen was. We knew it was a food allergy, but I tried keeping...
  10. I would definately say that a gluten-free diet can help. Most of the symptoms you complain of are listed at some point as a complication of celiac disease. If your blood work showed anything that indicated a chance, and you've already had your colonoscopy and endcoscopy. I would start the gluten-free diet if you can. How long do you have to wait for the...
  11. I don't know about everything you asked, but I do know that you should be careful with the rice milk. Apparently there are some brands that are ok, but I think for the most part they are made with a barley enzyme, and therefore would not be gluten-free. You clould try almond milk. Be careful with that too. Just make sure you check. As far as the dairy...
  12. Im thinkng specifically things like shampoo, lotions, make up, hair spray...etc. I can understand avoiding these things if you have DH but do you need to avoid them even w/o DH? I have never had any skin problems, and now Im wondering if I should be avoiding these outter things. I can understand lip stick b/c invariably you do ingest some of that, but...
  13. Kraft's mayo is also gluten-free
  14. My personal opinion is that you should tell your Dr about everyhting that seems not normal to you... I did the same thing. I have had so many problems, some severe and some exremely minor. When going in to my thyroid Dr, they wanted me to update the list of current or issues that I have had in the past. I thought some of the questions were ridiculous.....
  15. So there seems to be a common thread, that some of had problems with the Midel cookies... what kind are you having problems with? Are they cross contaminated or something? I have some but don't eat them much. Now Im wondering what's up?
  16. I don't know about your Dr, but mine explained that the biopsy would only be tested for celiac. I suppose the only thing that would have been obviously not cleiac, would be if they saw somehting during the procedure that did not correlate to celiac. I got the impression that they would be doing the test for that reason only, not looking for anyting. Not...
  17. I wouldn't say it's in your head..... if it really bothers you don't ignore it.. I have issues with heart palpatations some times, and racing heart rates. Mine have always been linked to my hyperthyroidism, which I believe is probably accurate. SO I don't know if it's from food or not, but my husband thought the same thing, until i went to the hospital...
  18. I don't have alot of experience regarding the ADD or mood behaviors, but I love a gluten-free bread mix I get. It's from Bob's Red Mill Wonderful gluten-free bread mix. It's very easy and tastes great! It freezes well too. Hope this helps. There are many recipes on this site... Welcome!
  19. warpspeed, I would guess that after 8 weeks, it could definatley affect the results. My doc wanted me back on gluten for 4 weeks at a minimum and that was only after a 2 weeks gluten-free period. I think it would tamper the results.
  20. Our pediatrician said that the blood work is not incredibly accurate until after 3. My boys are 2 and he felt fairly confident the results were accruate but said the younger they are the more inaccruate it wil be. They did not do any testing on my children when they were babies and had symptoms of multiple allergies very similar to your story. One of mine...
  21. I made my decision based on the blood work... .how signifcant was it...how conclusive. The biopsy is considered the gold standard... but my husband and I decided that we would not put our little ones through the biospy. I also chose not to do the biopsy. The endoscopy is not that big of a deal. It's fairly quick and painless, but for myslef I did not...
  22. I would not think that whether or not a child has a potbelly would be a way to determine if he's celiac or not! I would definatley recommend a new DOC!!!!! You can present with the classic symptoms and you can have no symptoms and still be celiac. You can not tell just by how a person looks. I was just at our pediatrician GI and he said that the number...
  23. I don't know anything about IBS really, but dairy is not always a problem for celiacs. It can be an additional allergy, or it can be that during the healing process diary is more difficult to digest, but dairy in general is not always linked to celiac. I have been diagnosed celiac, and as far as I know I do not have any issues with dairy. Many do however...
  24. Im not sure if I understood your question totally, but from my understanding if you are allergic to Whey or Casein ( they are both derivitaves of dairy) than you should be avoiding all dairy products. That's my udnerstanding anyway. As a side note, casein and whey are in a lot of things!!!...Most cookies, crackers, baked things....etc...
  25. Just an add on that..... even if according to blood work your Dr determines you are not celiac, does not mean that 100% you do not have it! There can be false negatives, but the blood work does provide a good start. Hope you feel better soon
