ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed
Luvs to Scrap replied to harley's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
DH was on the diet for 6 months before he noticed some consistent improvement and commented at 8 months that he is really starting to feel better. I wish there was a way to fast forward the healing time. My DS is in his 2nd month and it seems to take forever. Good luck! Kendra -

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed And Learning
Luvs to Scrap replied to Mickey06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First of all, I realized I posted I was at Whole Foods but really I went to Wild Oats. (sorry) The brand of corn flakes I bought was Natures Path Corn Flakes which are sweetened lightly with fruit juice. They also had ones sweetened with honey. Some of the little health food stores in Wichita had them too so I think that if they didn't carry them they... -
ARCHIVED I Did It! I Reheated My Gluten-free Pasta!
Luvs to Scrap replied to beaglemania's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I reheat my pasta in the microwave with my tupperware rock n serve container vented. DH thinks it tastes as good as the first time. (I think it is a little different but not bad) He does request that I refrigerate sauce separate from pasta. He thinks that the spaghetti sauce gets absorbed into the rice pasta. So I separate them but sometimes microwave... -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better
Luvs to Scrap replied to TCA's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the update, Tanya. We are still praying for Megan every day and praising the Lord for how well she is doing. Hopefully the gagging will let up soon and she will be interested in eating. It sounds like it has been "raining" at your house too. It seems when one thing breaks three do. Take care. Kendra -
ARCHIVED Quick Lunches
Luvs to Scrap replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My DH uses white corn tortillas to make sandwiches sometimes for a variety from gluten-free bread. (they are cheaper too) We discovered white corn tortillas don't have as strong of a taste as yellow corn. I have done meat sandwiches that way, also peanut butter and jelly. We made grilled cheese sandwiches with tortillas too. I guess that would be a quesadilla... -
ARCHIVED What Are The Chances Of Our Kids Being Celiac?
Luvs to Scrap replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Obviously, celiac is genetic but so is hair color, size, and lots of other things we don't worry about passing on. My DH wasn't diagnosed until we already had both of our children and now DS has celiac to. We have talked about it and even knowing that DH had celiac we still would have had both children. Both guys feel so much better on the diet and it... -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone On Here Forget That They Have celiac disease Most Of The Time?
Luvs to Scrap replied to em2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so encouraged by those of you who are at the point you forget sometimes. I myself don't have celiac but my DH and DS have it. Since June when we discovered DS has it I feel like all I do is live and breathe celiac and gluten free. I am reading books, trying new recipes and trying to figure out how to send him to Sunday School, preschool and other... -

Luvs to Scrap replied to marcy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I got on Nini's website for her newbies list. I can't find the link right now but it was really helpful. She had one for school supplies. All crayola stuff was ok except for Crayola dough. Elmer's products were ok except for finger paints. So we went name brand this year . Good luck. The longer I deal with this the more I learn I have been doing wrong... -

ARCHIVED How To Explain Celiac To 4yo
Luvs to Scrap replied to Nantzie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son will be 4 in Sept. When he got diagnosed in June we told him that gluten (or wheat, oats, barley and rye) made him sick just like they make Daddy sick. He now will only get to eat foods that are safe for him and Daddy. We only offer him safe things at home obviously but we have been working on him needing to ask before eating something when we are... -

ARCHIVED Lanigan's Results Are In...
Luvs to Scrap replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Luke has been gluten-free for about 1 1/2 months and he still has D. Not as bad as before but it is taking time. My DH took about 6 months to feel noticeably better and a lot better after 8 months. I think the Dr needs to clarify what his comment meant though. I continue to pray daily for Lanigan and hope that they figure out how to help him SOON... -
My husband eats out with the guys at Spangles every week. I have finally got him to realize that he is probably getting glutened there. (He used to eat the fries but convinced him that was a bad idean) Today he must have gotten glutened again because he was violently sick tonight and I know supper was gluten-free. He ordered a hamburger without the bun...

Luvs to Scrap replied to swittenauer's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My DH was diagnosed late Sept 05 and DS was just diagnosed in June. We are in the process of testing my DD. When just Jason had celiac the kids and I ate normal for breakfast and lunch while he was at work and I tried to make suppers as gluten-free as possible. (Sometimes Jason would have some parts of the meal different than the rest of us. Like we had... -

ARCHIVED Omg!
Luvs to Scrap replied to sclark9602's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How frustrating! It is so painful and hard to get them to do blood tests to begin with and now have to go back again. Yuck! And your daughter will definitley remember too. How old is your daughter? Kirsten got stuck 4 times yesterday trying to get enough blood for all of her celiac panels and she was not a happy 18 month old. Dr ordered allergy tests... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed After Dr Visit Today
Luvs to Scrap replied to Luvs to Scrap's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all of your support and prayers. Kirsten was really fussy today--basically screamed an hour after she got up this morning and then did the same thing after nap. Part of it might be I am not letting her have as much milk. She maybe only had 1-1 1/2 cups today as opposed to 4 or more. Luke did really well with his milk restriction. I filled... -
ARCHIVED Your Toddlers Fav Foods?
Luvs to Scrap replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

Luke just discovered Enviro Kids cereal bars. He loves the very berry. We also like ener g foods pretzels, fruit snacks, cheese sticks, yogurt, and fruit. ... -
ARCHIVED Overwhelmed After Dr Visit Today
Luvs to Scrap posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well we finally got home from Kirsten's 2:30 pediatrician visit at 7:00 tonight. He really took time with us and would go research something and then come back and talk to us again. I had taken all of the lab results our family practice dr had ordered on the family and also some stuff I had found about testing from this forum. He made copies of everything... -
