  1. Just wanted to let everyone know Kirsten and I took the blood test for celiac today. They couldn't locate a good vein so we got to wait while blood dripped from her big toe. She was not happy ! Now we just have to wait for a week or 2 to know if it showed up. I'll let you know what we find out. If her bloodwork is negative is there a way to diagnose...
  2. Whole Foods had gluten-free rice crispies and corn flakes when I was there last weekend. I am not on a gluten-free diet--just my husband and son but i thought they tasted normal. I think it is so ironic that the one cereal that is gluten-free is Fruity Pebbles--my mom never let us eat sugary junk like that when I was growing up ! Kendra
  3. My son and husband have both been diagnosed with celiac. I don't think I have it but have had stomach issues all of my life so its a possiblity. I am wanting to approach my doctor about getting tested and also getting my daughter tested. He was reluctant to test my husband and later my son due to the fact that they both look very healthy and Luke has been...
  4. Just wanted to say that I made these to take to a church function for my gluten-free husband and son. The teenagers finished them off when they came in the room. (None of the teens at church are even familiar with a gluten-free diet) I always take it as a compliment when people who can eat gluten pig out on something gluten-free. I used unsweetened...
  5. In her first gluten-free Gourmet cookbook she gives a recipe for Jill's Quick and Easy Pizza Crust that uses rice flour (I used brown rice) and cornstarch. My family loves it. I am not home right now but can get you the recipe Sat evening if you are interested. Takes rice flour, cornstarch, xanthan gum, milk, eggs, and crisco. I have tried it with oil...
  6. I am new to this gluten free thing too--my son and husband have celiac and we are going to get my daughter and myself tested. Since my three year old loves pizza and we can't go out for it anymore I made it for him. I used Jill's Quick and Easy Pizza crust from Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet. It was a little different then regular pizza crust--sort...
  7. I know this is a stupid question but is there a way to change my user name to something else. I am finding it confuses people when I ask a ? about my daughter also. Thanks! Kendra
  8. Thanks so much for the recipe. I threw the other stuff out so now I have something I can make the kids tomorrow. This celiac thing in kids is a lot to adjust to. I didn't realize he would get sick from touching the stuff. Hopefully I will get the hang of it soon.
  9. Luke has been begging to play with his play dough so I finally gave in today. He didn't mouth or taste it before his diagnosis so I thought it was pretty safe. No such luck--he licked it imitating his 17 month old sister. So now I took it away from him and I need to throw it out because it has gluten in it. I assume someone out there has a recipe for...
  10. He has been totally gluten free for a month. Before that he ate gluten at breakfast and lunch when my husband wasn't home (he has celiac) and we ate as much the same as my husband when he's home--too much of a pain to fix 2 meals and Jason has to be gluten-free. His D seems to be improving in that he has a more solid one once in awhile but they are still...
  11. We recently forced the blood testing issue with our doctor since Luke has had major D and we cannot get him to go in the potty. He pees there most of the time if we ask him to try but has no idea when he needs to do the other. He has had some almost solid stool since going on the diet but still has mostly D or very slimey stool. How long will he need to...
  12. I am new to this celiac thing too. Husband was diagosed last Oct and my almost 4 year old was just diagnosed in June. Luke seems to be understanding his diet pretty well for his age but was really craving pizza too. I tried Jill's Quick and Easy Pizza Crust from Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet and he liked it. Actually our whole family ate it. It...
  13. My husband tested positive last fall and my son who is almost 4 tested positive 2 weeks ago. Is it too early to test my 17 month old daughter. Our doctor didn't think my husband or son had it until we insisted on being tested. (my husband's grandma has celiac) I don't want to insist on testing if it is too early for the gluten antibodies to show anyway...
