Not Hungry

I'm feeling the way I felt last summer (the bad summer where I got very thin and had to force myself to eat at 9PM if I hadn't eaten all day-kept inadvertently getting glutened and felt SO GOOD when I wasn't eating...became scared of food). I do recognize it, so it doesn't have power over me. It happened once last fall and I literally went out and bought a TON of Halloween candy and made myself eat a candybar a day (quick and sweet) and told myself I liked food. It got into the 90 degrees yes

Random Thoughts

Even after having heard my diatribe on celiac, why does everyone always ask if I "can" eat peanuts when they see me eat pad thai? Are you a workaholic if you stop getting paid at 3:30 and you have a date pick you up at work at 7:15PM? Why do I sometimes miss my ex-bf even though he tried to strangle me and called me stupid (at church of all places)? Why did I cry when my student got her first A ever on a math test? (I know that I was happy our hard work had paid off, since she came to our sc

I'm Not A Mom

"Is your clock ticking?" a 36 year old jobless man asked me the other night. (He is my male friend's female friend's ex-boyfriend...) WELL, that's the first time I've ever been asked that. I'm 31, and he didn't ask me that until I'd told him my age. Why on earth would he ask me that? Was he wondering if I was trying to scope out a potential sperm donor at the nightclub where we were? Did he infer, as he stared at me shaking my money maker to the vibrating hip hop beats, that my smile- logica

Monday For Sure?

I spoke with the doctor's secretary twice last week to try to get the results. First time I called her she said I had to go for another test as they needed to see something else. I asked her if there was anything showing on the left side as I spent most of the weekend in bed (last weekend)She said yeah, a lateral blah blah - I missed it. So I called her the next day to clarify...something about a 2nd hernia is what I got out of that call.   So I made an appointment to go and see my family

Supreme Court

I might have mentioned somewhere in my blog that my husband and I have been fighting the IRS for about 8-10 years. The tax courts have ruled against us every step of the way, so we have to appeal to the Supreme Court. My husband has been doing a lot of the motion and brief writing himself to save money on attorney fees. Seriously, he's learned enough to become an attorney by now.   Anyway, he wrote the brief, actually it's called a Petition for Writ of Certiorari, and it's for my case. He

Celiac On The Job

If you've read my previous blog, you know that I'm newly diagnosed.   I'd like to hear from others on how you handled telling co-workers about your condition. Or, did you choose not to tell them because it's none of their business.   I chose to tell mine because I've been at the same job for 12+ years and know them very well. I had a birthday coming up and our office tradition is to bring food for the birthday person and everyone to share throughout the day. Knowing what foods we tend to

April 19, 2007. March 23 Was Critical And Pivotal For Me

The week containing March 23rd will be a week I'm eternally grateful for. All week we were running back and forth for Full Monty performances and Much Ado rehearsals. I did not stay on my gluten free diet. I also noticed I was having breathing problems, similar but not as severe as, my peanut allergy reaction. By cast party Friday night, I was so tired I really didn't care what was served. I tried to be careful though, picking out dips and corn chips, fruits, meats and things without brea

Weight Loss Success Story

I don't know where to start. I have been losing weight since starting the Isagenix Weight Management Program in October 2006. I have gone from 172 lbs. to 126 lbs. in just over 6 months. I am so happy. Above is a simulation of what I look like now. I can't believe it myself. I thought I would never be thin again. I was 120 when I got married 14 years ago. I have 3 children and had almost given up trying to lose weight. I really thought there was something wrong with me because it didn't

Dealing...

So I'm avoiding gluten. I felt better than ever for about five weeks before I decided to eat out. I ate at a restaurant that apparently grills thier potatoes the same place as their bread for sandwiches. Big mistake on my part, I was sick for about two weeks. The things I noticed that came back were intense anxiety, headaches, sinus drainage, skin problems that look like psoriasis and fatigue big time. I don't think I even need to mention the stomach cramping, gas, diarrhea and bloating but

Greetings From A Newbie/my Diagnosis Experience

This is my first post in the gluten-free forum. Please bear with me while I get familiar with the controls. (in case it posts twice or something.)   I was diagnosed with celiac disease ten days ago. I was completely blindsided by the diagnosis. It was discovered during a series of tests I had for a routine physical. I also have hypothyroidism (underactive) and took a blood test to check my thyroid levels. My doctor also tested my iron levels and discovered that I was severely anemic. Tha

Friday The 13th

I've had a run of bad luck lately. I got a letter in the mail with a color photo of me in my car- singing. It's a traffic light camera photo of me not making a complete stop before a right turn on red. Cost: $385. Went on a date with a guy who said he is in the FBI and it was nice, but the next day he text messaged me that he wanted to come over. I replied that I don't allow men to come to my home, and he called me, angry, telling me he can find out where I live. Finally, yesterday, Frid

Ignorance Abounds

Ack!   I have a friend whose family is going through a terrible time. She has cancer for the second time, her youngest daughter has been diagnosed as bi-polar, her three y.o. son is out of control and won't behave, her husband won't help discipline the children. Seems the only one in the family without a major issue (other than living in such a chaotic environment), is the oldest daughter.   So, anyway, I was doing a google search about the link between bi-polar and celiac disease. Seems

How Rude!

The teckie that did my test last sunday told me that the doctor's office would get the results by wednesday....Well wednesday came and went with no call, so Thursday afternoon I call the doctor's office and tell the lady why I'm calling she says she will look into it and call me back.... Friday at noon I still hadn't heard so I called the office again, this is what I got "Thank you for calling the Doctor's office, if this is between Monday to Friday 9:30 am to 5pm we are in the office exce

It Wasn't What I Thought It Would Be!

You'd think with the world so advanced in technology, someone would take the time to make that stuff Telebrix taste better. Would it be that hard? Seriously, I don't know! The CTscan was nothing like I expected. I had an 11 am appointment, I wasn't allowed to eat 4 hours before the test so at 6 am - I was sleeping anyway Then at 9 am I had to mix the Telebrix with 450ml of water. So I got up at 8:30 and had 2 cups of coffee one after the other, I'm a self admitted coffeeholic and I had

So...my husband and I have been thinking about buying some land and becoming self-sufficent.   We've been looking at various properties since last fall and trying to decide what to do. We finally made an offer on an 80-acre property a few weeks ago. Our offer was rejected, so we thought, "Well, it just wasn't meant to be." But the owners of the property e-mailed us just a couple of days ago telling us they changed their mind and will now take our offer. So now we're in a quandary. Wha

To Eat, Or Not To Eat

Ack! I have got to stop eating like a pig!   My clothes are getting tight. I can't stand it. It doesn't help when everyone around me thinks I'm thin and smirk when I mention losing weight. I start thinking, "Well, maybe I'm not as fat as I think...yeah, in fact, I am lookin' gooood." Then I put my jeans on and try to button them. That's when reality sets in. I'm going to try to go back to eating low-carb. It's so hard because I love the carbs...chips, mashed potatoes, potatoes

How I Stay Fit

I don't drink coffee, eat fattening things like cheesecake/creme brulee, fast food, or much red meat. But I DO claim sugar as my vice. After 10 years of teaching, I'm the same size, and colleagues often ask me how I do it. Here are some ideas as well as Things I do to trim down for bikini season (my summer clothes are a size smaller than my winter ones- it's a midwestern thing, we're very season-oriented):   Make sure you're only eating until you're NOT HUNGRY anymore, then GET UP (I feel

4/3/07

I started this blog for something to do. Basically to keep my mind from sitting around drooling. I work for a large technology company, I'd mention the company name, but that would violate the agreement I clicked on when I started this blog. Besides I can't really defame them if I don't name them.   Did I mention I hate this company that I've worked at for 28 years. That might sound odd, but it is true. It's a scumbag company that would suck the life out of you and throw your empty h

Surgery Update

So I am going for a CT SCAN on Sunday.....Sunday? of a long weekend... Well I never It apparently is better than the ultrasound I was supposed to be setup for. Never had one before so it should be interesting.   I have another issue going on in my life, a pretty big one - which may take time to work through! There was an incident where my father is buried and it's pretty creepy and extremely upsetting, needless to say I'm not having much luck being "good" with my diet. I'm trying, but t

Hola! Back from Mexico! 10 teachers + 1 ship + tequila - kids = GOOD TIMES! Twas a nice first 4 days of the 2 week spring break! Carnival had a MANAGER come to my table the first night and explain what I could eat for the first two dinners. She said they'd make me special desserts... but much to my disappointment they didn't the first night...miscommunication between the waiters and the kitchen??? who knows. YES it was PAINFUL watching all 9 of my shipmates relish their chocolate souffle

Gotta Have More Surgery... :(

So I went to the doctors/surgeon's office today...and I have to have surgery to repair an insitional hernia I got when I had the last surgery to remove part of my bowel. which came about in the first place when they discovered I had celiac disease... the irony of it all... Now keep in mind, I have been sick and undiagnosed for 20 years, so imagine...if they caught it earlier all this crap now would have been avoided....OMG I'm furious!!!!!   And since my last surgery I haven't really hea

March 27, 2007 Feeling Good!

Even though the weather is changing with a rain storm coming in, I'm feeling really good! My joints don't hurt at all and I feel energetic, and this is a day after my mtx!! I would like to get all the pasta out of the house but hubby likes it. It's not really fair to deny him just because I can't have it. I feel like I'm losing a little weight but my scale is unavailable at the moment. The one thing i hate though is i have prednisone waist. I always had a smaller waist but it's really u

I read a research article today about how hookworms are being considered as a standard of care of colitis. Dunno about them used for obesity treatment though. The first thing I did once I figured out I wasn't reacting to gluten anymore was to head for the bakery isle. It had been 13 years..
