I Was Diagnosed 2 1/2 Years Ago & Now Something New....

I've been gluten free ever since diagnosis. Last summer I was cross contaminated & got violently ill. Severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and I didn't feel good for months.

On Saturday, I went over to a friends house for dinner. She bought corn tortillas for me to have with the tacos. After I ate 2 tortillas, I read the label & realized that there was wheat gluten in the tortillas!  And I had no reaction. I was slightly queasy that night & a little on Sunday.

I don't understand how I can go from having such a violent reaction to no reaction at all.

Anyone have any thoughts on this??

Thanks!!

Jenni

You're right.  Thats quite peculiar.  Maybe the first time around, your violent reaction was something more than gluten.  Gluten and something undercooked?  Don't know...  Are you usually asymptomatic?

No, I usually have at least a stomach ache. I don't tend to have the typical GI symptoms, like vomiting or diarrhea. I tend to get fatigued and joint pain.

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
