OK I just got my TSH rechecked and it was 65.50 last month in was 5.50. I have had a bad month ( accudently getting into stuff I shouldnt) Could that have affected it? I was told because of celiac my body wasnt absorbing the synthroid like it should, so my thyroid was getting all werid. I went on the gluten-free diet and it was getting better. This is so frusterating

Gluten accidents definately affect absorption of thyroid meds. The whole time I was undiagnosed I had very Hypo symptoms no matter how much I increased meds. I had bad malabsorption (lost 25 lbs.). As soon as I went gluten-free I had to lower my dose... for the first time ever it felt like the meds were working. After about a month I actually went Hyper and had to lower the dose again. My endocrinologist said as my intestines heal...I'll be absorbing more and more of the meds....finally.

Firegirl, I am sorry you are having problems with your thyroid. I have been on meds for Hypo thyroid since 1999. I was dx with Celiac in 2003 after having prblems for over a year and losing 40lbs in 2 months and my dose has not changed at all and all my levels are right on target.

Do you see an Endocronologist, if not I would suggest seeing one, if you do I would definately bring this up to him/her. Good luck :)

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
