Pret A Manger Changed Salad Dressings ;-(

A couple of months ago I got my usual cobb salad at Pret a Manger, with a balsamic vinaigrette dressings.  The salad has a gluten-free sticker on it, and the dressing always has been gluten free.

Well, I got almost immediately sick and hadn't been back again until last week.  I picked up the cobb salad and went for the dressing and noticed that there was no gluten-free sticker on the rack card in front of the dressings.  I looked at the label and it now has soy sauce in it (with wheat).  In fact, none of the dressings are now gluten-free, I even e-mailed the company.  So strange for a company that has gone out of their way to expand their gluten-free options these last couple of years.

Anyway, I don't know when they changed the dressings, but my reaction was so bad and immediate that time in September, I'm guessing that's what got me.

It's true what they say:  You have to read the label EACH time.

We went to a Pret A Manger while visiting Chicago over the holidays. I had done my research for my daughter and THOUGHT I knew what to do. But nothing was labeled (unlike I had read it was) so I asked the manager for a list of their gluten free items. He told me that they don't provide it anymore, and have removed all gluten-free labeling from their products. Because we were hungry, and my daughter isn't very sensitive, I had him tell me the 3 or 4 items that "used" to be labeled gluten-free and she chose from those. We did read the ingredients lists on those and they appeared okay. My guess is that they can't control for cross contamination so they are choosing to stop any claims of gluten-free. :(

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
