Im new to this. I've had an ongoing problem with my stomach. I used to be a very activate person boxing and bodybuildin, then all of a sudden stomach pains. My symptoms of stomach pains. Tiredness, weight loss, off balance, bad co-ordination,muscle loss and nerves pulsating and general nueropathy. But yesterday I went to hospital to have a colonoscopy. It all come back as clear now there want a stool sample and blood test to see what's going on with my intestines eg Crohns or celiac or whatever. Has anyone had similar things like this before being diagnosed me?.. If I have celiac can I make a recovery? And would the symptoms I've had for over 18 months, which have got worse be from possible celiac or dysfunctions?... Please advice.

Yes, yes, and yes.  All of this will be easier for you once you have some sort of diagnosis - whatever that is.  Crohns and celiac can be treated, as can other conditions.  And hopefully your treatment will allow you to return to your activities soon.  Good luck!

I'm pretty much going through this now. My limbs and left quad have a tendency to go completely dead hours after I eat gluten (and other carbs and sugar) so I have cut them all from my diet. My muscles are sore and weak, all my joints hurt and get stiff in the morning , I have headaches, I'm tired but have insomnia, and I've gone from 150 to 118 lbs in the last seven months. It is extremely difficult to go to work and function, mostly because sitting at a desk for eight hours is hard. I tested negative for Chrons and my celiac panel is inconclusive (I'd only eaten gluten again for 2 weeks before I got tested). My B12 and D3 are normal now, so it's not that. I've begun to doubt my problems are related to celiac or gluten tolerance.

Good luck with your neurologist. Mine told me that celiac does not cause numbness/tingling in limbs. Only low B12 due to celiac damage causes it. However, I've read in neurology journals about something called gluten ataxia. Look it up. Don't expect your doctors to know anything about it though.

Mine have given me very little help as to the actual cause of whatever is going on with me. I've done a mountain of research into what could be going on with me because I have "good days" when my symptoms aren't as bad. They seem related to my food. If I ate nothing but cabbage and meat today, I'd feel much better tomorrow. So...something is going on, I just don't know what (and it's impossible to just eat cabbage and meat unless you're a fan of D). Right now, I'm looking at carbohydrate intolerance. I've cut out all grains, fruit, starchy veggies, and most dairy to see if that helps. Look up the "two week test" if you're curious about that. I just started yesterday. I feel awful today on it, and I'm about to cut out all dairy to see if that changes things since I know milk can trigger my joint pain.

In any case, other things you might want to look into are thyroid and MS. Other causes might be oxalate excess, salicylate intolerance, or a magnesium deficiency. If this carbohydrate intolerance diet doesn't fix my problems, I'll probably start supplementing with magnesium/calcium and see if that helps.

A colonoscopy can not dx celiac disease nor will a stool sample. You need a full celiac blood panel and an ENDOSCOPY taking 4-6 biopsies AND you must have been eating a normal gluten diet throughout as well as for a long time beforehand.

I am going to chime in on a different tangent here.

You said that you are/have been body building.  Are you taking any supplements or enhancements ?  Sometimes these types of things can cause stomach issues which in turn can cause other issues.

Just a thought

Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS.

Hi Theresa,  A few of my friends have your same story. You may be right about barley, etc.  18 years ago at a football game while clapping, suddenly my 4th finger was in agony.  It looked like a vein had burst. It was blue for a couple hours, then disappeared.  Finally realized it happened every time when drinking beer.  It's occurred several times over the years when opening a jar, lifting something that was a bit heavy, holding on to tight to something.  Immediate icing stops the pain and discoloration.  Now avoiding wheat in the US, it rarely happens.  Thanks for the reminder.  Will have Entero Labs run another test. Unfortunately they've relocated to Switzerland/Greece.

The EMA test is an old and less sensitive test for anti-tTG2 antibodies. It relies on a technician using a microscope to check for fluorescence of a labelled substrate (typically monkey oesophagus or human umbilicus), giving a simple positive/negative result. It is similar to running a standard anti-tTG2 test but with a high cut-off, making it more specific but less sensitive. Transient rises in tTG2 can be caused by e.g. viral infections and inflammation. Very high levels of anti-tTG2 (>x10 standard range) are almost certainly coeliac disease but moderately raised levels can have several causes apart from coeliac disease. Other food allergies can cause villi blunting but that is much rarer than coeliac disease or other non-coeliac causes. Not All That Flattens Villi Is Celiac Disease: A Review of Enteropathies

Maybe you have a low  intolerance to Wheat.   Rye, Barley and Malt are the gluten in Celiac disease.  It has always been stated Wheat and Gluten, not just a Wheat intolerance.  Barley will keep me in bed for (2) weeks.  Gut, Migrains, Brain fog, Diahrea.  It is miserable.  And when I was a toddler the doctor would give me a malt medicine because I always had Anemia and did not grow.  Boy was he off.  But at that time the US didn't know anyone about Celiac.  This was the 1940s and 50s.  I had my first episode at 9 months and did not get a diagnosis until I was 50.  My immune system was so shot before being diagnoised, so now I live with the consequences of it. I was so upset when Manufacturers didn't want to label their products so they added barley to the product.  It was mostly the cereal industry.  3 of my favorite cereals were excluded because of this. Malt gives me a bad Gut reaction.
