What vitamins or supplements?

Hi!  I wasn’t sure where to post this inquiry so I’m sorry if it is in the wrong place!  My blood work was negative for celiac although biopsy was suspicious.

I have severe joint pain and GI issues so have decided to eliminate all gluten to see if that helps. I hear I may need to supplement my diet with vitamins to make up for what I’m missing, but I don’t know what vitamins they are!  Can anyone help?

Thanks, Sarah

You can be safe with just a general multivitamin.  Look for one that is gluten free.  Read our Newie 101 thread located under the “Coping” section of the forum for tips.  Browse through Celiac.com for more ideas.

Food is till the best source for vitamins and minerals, but sometime supplementation is needed.  I do not take any (took iron when I was first diagnosed since my anemia was severe), however, I make sure I eat a varied gluten-free diet and I try to avoid processed junk food.   You might look into avoiding nightshades for a while (white potatoes, tomatoes) to see if that helps with joint pain.

Besides celiac disease being ruled out (please make sure you had more than the TTG IgA and IgA deficiency test because not all celiacs test positive to the TTG like me), did they check for R. Arthritis?

I am sure others will contribute more soon.

I like liquid Health Supplements, they are sublingual and the liquid can be mixed in with a beverage. Do to the liquid form they are more easily absorbed and used by the body. Also less pills to take. I use Stress & Energy, and Neurological Support, my parents use their joint health and gluclosamine ones. Personally I use Jarrow Joint support for mine though. Best pricing is on Lucky Vitamin.com

Thank you both for your replies and advice. I’m happy to know I just need a gluten free multi.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
