Grains/gluten & Weight Gain

Has anyone ever come across an explanation for the reason WHY someone with celiac disease would GAIN weight rather than lose it? The fact that I never lost weight like my mom did was the reason why I never suspected celiac disease for myself all these years. And doctors seem to have the same attitude with their sketchy knowledge of celiac disease in general. But I've never seen a discussion of the actual reasons why people would gain weight with the presence of gluten in their diets.

For me it was because I was hypothyroid. I lost about 30 lbs. when I went gluten-free. I eat more food now, and more often and certainly retain the foods that I am eating. Unlike before! I couldnt' understand how someone who had chronic diahreah and was always throwing up could be chubby. <_<

It's like this... your body thinks you are starving and shuts down your metabolism, hanging on to every bit of fat it can. If your body thinks it is starving it will actually break down muscle instead of digesting fat, just so to hang onto the fat to use as a last resort. I guess it's another reason for the fatigue. Have your thyroid levels checked, even if they are within normal limits they could be low for you. Go to the vitamin and supplements section of your health food store and get a thyroid aid. Or maybe google hypothyroid to see if you have any of those symptons.

Got cold hands and feet? Feel tired all the time, ect.? Maybe that's it.

Good luck, hope you feel better, Wendy :)

Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

I’m so glad they listened to your concerns!  I hope you get some answers from the MRI.

Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
