Migraines And Worse Symptoms After gluten-free?

Hi,

So my dh has been sick since about 3 mos after I was diagnosed celiac and went gluten-free. That was almost 2 yrs ago. Since then he has got belly bloat, D, and other digestive trouble. He was checked out by a gi guy who ran a bunch of tests and proclaimed IBS. Then he saw an acupuncturist/herbalist, who's normally very good, but he didn't improve much. She also gave him anti-parasite herbs.

A year ago, he tested for celiac and it came back negative - blood test from Promethius. The symptoms have continued, same as they have since the beginning.

Starting last Monday, for my amusement (haha), and because he loves me and will agree to odd experiments, he has gone gluten-free. For the past 24 hours he's had a migraine (mild, as always when he gets them - only since 2 yrs ago). He thinks his symptoms are worse.

Could *removing* gluten from a diet cause problems? I'm thinking it is either coincidence, gluten withdrawal, he's allergic to a common gluten-free food (like tapioca or sorghum or something not in a typical american diet) which he's eating more of now, or ?????

Thanks Tiffany! He seems a bit better today.

Now I am paranoid after reading more on this board that at the end of his gluten-free month, he'll go back on gluten, get really really sick, and then blame me (knock wood) Let's hope it goes some other way....

Could he have develped a lactose intolerance?

My hubbie started to get terrible headaches and stomach gripes after about 9 months gluten-free.

He cut the milk out,and it stopped.Slowly he's tried to re-introduce it-and found he can tolerate small amounts.
