Hi, I don't know if it is the same thing I had or not, but right after being diagnosed I started having burning in my right arm and right leg and on my back. It turned out to be a Vitamin B deficiency. My Vitamin B levels in my blood were normal, but your blood keeps your blood levels normal, so don't let the doctor say that is not it. I have been on vitamin b-12 shots for 4 months now and feel completely back to normal. (Ironically, vitamin b-12 deficiency symptoms tend to be on one side - mine was the right side too.) Hope that helps!

thank you for the reply, its quite painful..Id look at my elbow or under the ribs were it burns thinking my skin must be bright red,but its internal.

I don't take any vitamins, they always upset my stomach..better see if I can find something. someone told me about b12 that you melt under the tongue

I get a burning sensation in my skin....feels like a really bad sunburn but there's no redness or rash. Does the rash go around your rib kind of like a belt? You know, in a thin strip around your waist/rib area?

ebrbetty Rising Star

no, the rash is on the right rib and one above that under my right breast

Okay, sorry then, I don't know...I was thinking Shingles, which is a painful rather than itchy rash that follows a nerve. You may want to have a dermatologist look at it.

ebrbetty Rising Star

its very painful, the rash is just a weird, small red bumps, not really itcy. the burning/pain is driving me nuts, in the elbow, groin, rib area all right side, sometime my trunk area gets red..it almost seems nerve realated, but the weird thing is it gets worse after I eat

my dad had shingles bad

Wow, I'd been experiencing the same symptoms, except it was my shoulder, not my elbow. I've been taking B 12 & B complex (both under tongue) for two months, and have not noticed any change (I must admit I forget to take at alot of times). I get accupunture treatments and she did some cupping on that area the last two weeks, and I've felt much less pain in those areas.

I've wondered, does anyone else do accupunture?

did anyone ever tell you what causes it? does yours get worse sometimes after you eat? [it may be a coincidence] is your pain just in the shoulder?

a few years ago I did accupuncture For about 6 months for fibro pain, it helped for a few months then nothing..I hear that a lot

Well we knew I had a vit B definciency, however since I began taking them I had not noticed a difference (I started them at the same time I went gluten free approx 2mo. ago). I believe I had not noticed any change due to the malabsorbtion. We actually thought it had something to do with my line of work, I lift my right arm alot (it's in my right top shoulderblade area). It mostly came on at night or when I had not eaten properly. I had stopped working a month ago, still no relief, in fact it was getting worse and that's when she started the cupping treatments, with great success. I have also had it in my right groin area but thought it was caused by pushing a box with my leg last month (I never mentioned it to her), so when you mentioned pain in thoses areas, and someone else mentioned how the B deficency targets one side, it blew my mind, and reminded me to take my B's, in fact I doubled up tonight.

I do find that accupuncture really works for me, I've done it off and on for the past 6 years. However, I went to 3 different accupuncturists before finding one who "understood" what I am going through now.

My celiac was triggered by west nile virus/encephalitis 2 years ago and up until 2 1/2 months ago I thought that was the cause of all my symptoms. You can just imagine the trouble I've had finding someone who would listen.

Peace & Goodnight,

Elsa

I've gotten exactly that too! Right after I had some ham with bourbon in it (when I first went gluten-free, I thought that bourbon was just corn derived, later I found out it ALWAYS has rye and barley in it as well!) that was the first symptom I got. It lasted only a couple of days, but I also had a million other symptoms from this 'glutening.' But that was the first time I ever got that weird burning sensation. It was only in my left arm, and like you said, it was like a bad sunburn in my skin, except there was no rash or redness or anything. Very weird!

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶
