Currently undergoing testing

Hey all, I am in the very early stages of testing for gluten intolerance, I have been lurking in this site for a while as I have been trying to find out what my symptoms where, I have had an misdiagnosed skin condition for around 10 years now, under certain conditions it would aggressively flare up and the rest of the time it would bubble away, always managing to surface somewhere.

In my first diagnosis I was checked for contact allergies and a blood test was done (not sure what test was done as doctors never told me), I was told I just had severe eczema and to use steroid creams, it didn’t really work but over time things started to get better, my lifestyle changed as I moved house with different people and things healed, it would flare up from time to time but was mostly small and in reoffending areas (around eyes, lower back).

Recently I have moved again with some friends, and with this change, slowly over the period of about a month it’s all came back, I have a full body rash and major infection problems with my face, the thing is a week ago I think I worked out the problem with gluten, I changed my diet for a couple of days and my skin started healing all over, with my face being almost clear after 2 days.

I went to the doctor to see if I could begin the process for testing and they told me I would need to go back on gluten for a week to get the bloods accurate.

5 days in and I’m basically rotting, I have to wait till next Tuesday and I’m in a lot of pain. I have attached a picture of my face as I am looking to see if other people have suffered these sorts of symptoms while on gluten and also if anyone has recommendations for soothing this while I’m waiting for bloods.

Face Condition

Thanks.

Your eyelids look a bit like mine did when I was first diagnosed, and they told me it was blipharitis that caused it. After I first went gluten-free I could tell when I got gluten in my diet because my eyelids would flare up. After I healed and was gluten-free a couple of years this condition went away and has never come back, even on the rare occasions I was glutened.

Have you been to a dermatologist and has the blisters biopsied for dermatitis herpetaformis? If you’ve been gluten-free such a test might also be inaccurate.

Hey, thanks for replying, I have my bloods booked l (which is why I am still eating gluten at the moment), the doctor has wrote to the dermatologist and I am currently waiting on an appointment to be booked.

I was only able to be gluten free for a couple of days before seeing the doctor, and at that point all the rashing on my body was clearing up and my face was healing well, the doctor said I needed to go back on to gluten while I was waiting for the blood test (saw the doctor last Tuesday, bloods are next Tuesday) and since reintroducing gluten it’s all came back.

Most of my life I have never really eaten much of any gluten based product so I have only had a few massive flare ups, but now looking back on it i’ve realised that the times when it has flared up the most were times when I did have higher gluten intake in my diet.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
