Sterling Inn, Pa & The Grainless Baker

Hello Everyone!

I have to say I just had the greatest experience this weekend. My in-laws, husband and I just got back from South Sterling, PA (in the Poconos) and we stayed at The Sterling Inn where I was treated like royalty! We called ahead of time (after 5 other calls) and once we mentioned my diet they immediately were helpful stating that they have a bakery nearby that provides gluten-free breads, muffins and other desserts and specialties. They said they would have that available for me, plus some soy milk for me since I can't have dairy either. When dinner arrived, the waiter and the manager both knew my situation, were able to tell me what dinner items I could eat and what items they could alter for me. They brought me fresh white rice bread and I ate it while everyone else ate their wheat bread from the basket instead of staring at them like usual. I felt so special. Then they brought me a gluten-free brownie for dessert, and for breakfast they had a cinnamon roll for me while everyone else got coffee cake and they all tried my cinnamon roll and said it tasted better than the coffee cake! The best part of it all, was that they gave me the remainder of the food that wasn't consumed while we were there. So I walked away with a half loaf of bread, a small tray of brownies and the remainder 2 cinnamon rolls!

So I just couldn't wait to get home to share this awesome news and the links to the places:

Let me know if anyone else has stayed here, I would love to share my experience!

All smiles,

Emily

I am originally from the area you are talking about. I never stayed at the Sterling Inn, however I am a big Grainless Baker fan. I eat their sandwich bread on a daily basis, love their cookies...ok I eat too many cookies. My finace eats their cookies like there will be none the next day and he isn't Celiac. Their products are just so good. :):) I had almost given up hope on gluten free cookies until I tried some of their cookies last May.

That's great! I'm trying to see if they can find a store close to my home to sell their products.

Hey we shouldn't be limited to a number of cookies. We've had to suffer long enough. I say, "Eat away!"

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

I have a One Pot and decided to start using it one day. I was hesitant at first making my own yogurt, but was surprised at how easy it was. I like mine better too.

Because I spend so much time reading every word on all food packaging, I personally would greatly appreciate it if there was one common gluten-free symbol written in large-enough text, and always located in the same place. That alone will make shopping easier and faster. I dread having to buy packaged food. Thank you very much for asking,
