I am NOT a doctor, but these are the minimum tests I would request:

SMA 18

TSH

T3

T4

Thyroid antibodies

(I think Sedimentation rate is in the SMA 18)

Rheumatoid Factor

IGg

IGa

Anti-Transglutaminase antibodies (don't know the abbreviation)

Anti-Emdomysial Antibodies

Antigliadin antibodies

Anticholinesterase Antibodies

Brain MRI

Don't know if this is all-inclusive, but I hope it helps . . . it may be a start, and someone else on the forum can add . . . . Good luck to you, Lynne

I'm glad you got some positive results! Good luck to you . . . Keep us posted as to what the findings are!

Donna - I also was misdiagnosed for 50 years. I diagnosed myself and was confirmed by a lab. I suspect all of your symptoms are food reactions triggering an autoimmune response. The suggested blood panel would cover a lot of issues but why? You already know that you have celiac disease - of course you have a leaky gut! You also may know that gluten intolerance is associated with thyroid disease so maybe you need to confirm that. New research in arthritis links it to a nutritional deficiency of a vital plant sugar (search: sugar printing in the UK).

I would recommend IgG delayed food allergy testing and know for sure what other foods are causing reactions in your body. I had this testing done and I was stunned to realize that grapes of all things were triggering my migraines!

Hi Heli

You are right, I have pretty much diagnosed myself. I did have Igc testing in 2003 and it came up wheat, milk, & cashew nuts (which i don't eat anyway). I need a correct medical diagnosis if I have a thyroid problem that needs treatment also I am moving to another country soon and don't want a new Doctor thinking I'm a self diagnosed food allergy freak! My GP is determined that the cause of all my problems is depression/low seratonin so more prozac. The NHS would rather stuff people full of drugs than spend money actually finding out the causes of illness. I am so glad I have private health insurance now. It will also help my family who don't have insurance to get the correct treatment as their doctors will have to finally listen.

I will look into the sugar link,

Donna

Donna,

Go to biohealthinfo.com. They are number 1 for celiac patients and check out the thread for the Radio program on gluten intolerance. A regular MD is not educated in these matters. You need a biohealth doc to check for infections and other things...Hope you call them!!!

Hi thomas, interesting site but I needed a UK based doctor who my regular GP and my new one when I move would respect the opinion/test results of without question. I checked out a lot before choosing him!

Avon Complementary Medicine is the central office for the practices of Dr David Dowson, a specialist in Complementary Medicine.

Dr Dowson was a general practitioner near Bournemouth for over twelve years, during which time he incorporated complementary methods within his practice, mainly acupuncture. His increasing interest in complementary methods of treatment led to him founding the British Medical Acupuncture Society in 1980, which now has over 1000 members.

From 1984 to 1993 he was a partner at the Centre for the Study of Complementary Medicine, Southampton. He has written extensively on complementary medicine, including being the co-author of two books and contributor to others, including the Readers Digest Family Guide to Alternative Medicine.' In addition he has done research, subsequently published, mainly in environmental medicine. He has a particular interest in the treatment of M.E., and conducted research which demonstrated the most effective treatment for this condition so far discovered.

As well as his clinical commitment, Dr Dowson teaches acupuncture, homoeopathy, and allergy to fellow doctors, physiotherapists and to veterinary practitioners. He lectures extensively, particularly on M.E., and has advised the House of Commons, M.P., and the Select Committee of the House of Lords on Complementary Medicine.

Dr Dowson considers that his treatment is primary through "Biological Therapy". This is treatment designed to encourage the body's natural healing and defensive mechanisms."

The leaky gut test showed Decreased permeability and malabsorbsion not a leaky gut after all! I'm havn't managed to find much information on this on the net, it does seem a bit odd considering that I don't actually look mal nourished, sadly I could could do with losing weight.......

I'm not seeing the Doctor until the end of the month when all the rest of the results will be back too.

The tyroid results were: Free T4 11.5 pmol/l ref (*--) (9.14 - 23.4)

Free T3 3.5 pmol/L (-*-) (2.23 - 5.34)

TSH 1.42 uIU/ml (*--)(.49 - 4.67)

Thyroid antibody profile - negative

Zinc 66 ug/dl 75-130

10.1 11.5 -20.0

All the other minerals were within limits, I don't know why there are 2 results for Zinc. My B12 was a bit low at 400. I'm still awaiting the adrenal saliva 4 tests results.

Perhaps I have celular resistance??? any ideas experts????

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.

What is the best gluten free scanner app? I have the "gluten-free Scanner" app. I scanned an almond joy and it says it contains gluten when the package is labeled gluten free

Certainly, it would b wise to have a gene test done if your physician is open to it as it would provide some more data to understand what's going on. But keep in mind that the genetic test for celiac disease cannot be used as to diagnose celiac disease, only to establish the potential to develop active celiac disease. About 40% of the general population possess one or both of the primary genes known to be associated with the development of active celiac disease but only about 1% of the population actually develop active celiac disease. So, the gene test is an effective "rule out" tool but not an effective diagnostic tool.
