Ensure High Calcium Chocolate

My nine-year-old had the biopsy and blood test last month, both positive for Celiac Disease. We're about 17 days into the gluten-free diet. She continues to have "sharp stabbing pains" near her navel, though those are becoming less frequent. She mainly complains now of a "bloated feeling". She's missed seven weeks of school.

We're concerned about her calcium and keep offering Ensure High Calcium, Chocolate Flavor. I've seen mixed posts on the listserv. The company website says it's gluten-free but she had a bad day today after drinking one last night.

Also, any thought on how we can ease her bloated feeling?

It is gluten free. I have some in the frig now. I have had it on and off for the last year and never have gotten sick. And I get sick within a few minutes. There was a time in the past summer that I had to get some weight on me fast and I drank two every morning.

OOPs, mine is the high protein one. But, I would assume that the Calcium one is the same, especially if their website states that it is gluten-free.

      good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

      I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding. I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose ...

      My journey is it gluten or fiber?

      What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

      Gluten free Yogurt suggest

      I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free. Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by...

      FDA looking for input on Celiac Gluten sensitivity labeling PLEASE READ and submit your suggestions

      I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.
