Gluten challenge tips

Hello everyone,

I first posted on this forum awhile ago when I first learned I might have celiac disease. Now the time has finally come for me to get a biopsy to confirm this diagnosis.

I have been gluten-free for a couple months at the suggestion of my doctor, but in preparation for the biopsy I need to reintroduce gluten and eat it for 6-8 weeks.

My main question is, does anybody have any tips for dealing with the symptoms when taking the "gluten challenge"? I had my first meal with gluten a couple hours ago and I feel like a zombie, sore stomach, headache, nauseous all those fun symptoms. I really don't know how I'm going to last these 6 weeks lol.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone had any tips or just support/similar experiences to share!

Thanks so much!!

Welcome to the forum, and I don't envy your situation. The article below may be helpful, but you would likely not want to include the AN-PEP enzymes it mentions, as this could alter your gut's reaction to gluten.

Did you receive a positive blood screening for celiac disease? If so, feel free to share those results. I only ask this because the latest guidelines in the UK, and new research, indicates that you may not need to do a biopsy to confirm CD if your tTG blood test results are in the 5-10x positive marker range.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
