Not too great

Do you want to talk about it?

Sometimes a bear hug makes me feel better.  Just having someone acknowledge that you're going through a tough time.  With a bit of encouragement.

So I'm sending a bear hug.

What it is is that i was always holding my stomach ever since i was a kid and i never enjoyed food. I thought that maybe i was nervous and anxious and could never put on weight. I never had any gluten symptoms so my vili must have been completely damaged and was always breathing wrong. In 2019 one day after work my body gave up and i fell on the floor losing consciousness. Eventually lying in bed whilst curled up holding my stomach My heart rate went crazy to 200 per second. I had blood tests and doctors couldnt find anything wrong with why i wasn't breathing correctly i actually thought my life was coming to an end i thought i was going to die. So i guessed it might have been food as i was always holding my stomach how i wasn't diagnosed as a child with this ill never know. Since my panic attacks i tried all sorts of diets but i had to guess which ones. Ive been doing a gluten free diet since 2019 and have vastly improved. Im putting on weight heart rate back to somewhat normal and can get back on with my life somewhat. I used to still get panic attacks at night usually because ive eaten too much or too late and my villi cannot handle it. I can eat food again and i enjoy it but i still touch my stomach every now and then and am sweaty palms in the morning and after i eat.

@Voltage,

You have had a difficult journey!  My heart goes out to you.  I understand having something wrong and not being able to find a solution.

I went through similar symptoms that are now called POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome).  Symptoms include fainting and tachycardia, and anxiety in spades, too.

What helped my POTS was making sure I was getting all the vitamins and minerals I needed.  Those damaged villi don't absorb nutrients very well, so I supplemented B Complex, Vitamin D, magnesium and extra Thiamine Vitamin B1.  I included nutrient dense foods like liver and grass fed beef.

I'm leaving some articles about POTS and Thiamine.

I'm not a doctor, but this information has been helpful to me and I hope you will find it helpful, too.  Maybe this can give you a place to start a discussion with your doctor.

Well done, @Voltage.  You've made such good progress!

One thing i struggle with is preparing my food while other people are about. Is it even possible for my food to be contaminated by people walking past my food. Stupid question i know.

@Voltage,

No, it's not a stupid question.

It's doubtful that people walking by would contaminate your food.

What sort of situation is it?  Shared break room at work? Shared household?

What if someone was to dust pan and brush the floor and i were to walk out a minute later. Should i wait for it to settle can i even breathe in gluten that way.

I doubt you would ingest much that way unless someone had dropped a bag of flour and the air was full of it. The generally accepted safe level for most people is 10 mg of gluten per day for regular exposure. This is equivalent to 100 mg of wheat flour, or a piece of bread the size of a small pea. Most people start to show a reaction when regularly ingesting 3 to 5 times this amount.

      Were you doing any of the new home construction yourself? Drywall compounds and adhesives used in construction have been known to cause problems for some celiacs.

      Hello @Scatterbrain and welcome to the forum I am sorry to hear you have had a return of your symptoms.  My first thoughts were that stress can cause IBS-like symptoms - a friend of mine has been suffering a huge amount of stress and when that happens she gets diarrhea.  But you say that you haven't got any bad abdominal issues, so perhaps you could share what other symptoms you are having? Hello, I was newly diagnosed in January of this year (2025).  Since then I have been strict about staying gluten free and only cooking at home.  I started feeling better in July while gradually resuming close to my normal routine of activities and athletics. September and October were extremely stressful due to a new home build being finished and moving.  My spouse and I take care of his mom who has advanced dementia and have been since 2021.  We did all the moving as well as get the other house on the market for the month of October.  Since earlier this month I feel like I did back in the early stages of my diagnosis.  Almost all of my symptoms have come back except for the bad abdominal issues.  I haven’t changed my diet or supplements since January and wonder if the stress has caused a set back? Any thoughts are helpful.  Thanks

      This is why Daura Damm can be a sponsor here--at 3ppm or less it is gluten-free, and it's doubtful that anyone with celiac disease would ever have issues with such levels. Some people may be reacting to the yeast in the beer, but I seriously doubt that such beers could trigger elevated antibodies or villi damage--the science says such levels won't trigger celiac disease issues.

      I have to express some significant skepticism about the drclark cleansing programs you've mentioned. The claim that a specific, three-part parasite and organ cleanse is a universal solution for chronic health issues is a major red flag, as it oversimplifies the immense complexity of the human body and conditions like Celiac disease, which is an autoimmune disorder, not a parasite infection. Regarding your Celiac disease, the reaction you describe, while real to you, does not necessarily confirm a diagnosis; a delayed reaction is common with various digestive issues, and a definitive diagnosis typically requires specific blood tests and an intestinal biopsy, not just a provider's acceptance of symptoms. Furthermore, your mention of approaching mayors seems to misunderstand the role of local government versus federal policy; the deduction for gluten-free food is a federal tax law, and a mayor has no jurisdiction to implement widespread Celiac screening, which is a medical and public health decision far beyond a municipal leader's purview. It sounds like you are navigating a difficult health journey, but I would strongly advise consulting with qualified medical specialists and registered dietitians over relying on unverified online cleansing programs.
