Celiac & Chlorine Allergy

I found out that i am also allergic to chlorine, so I need to get a water filter/purifier. There are so many at such a range of prices, i have no clue which to pick. I don't make a lot of money so the super expensive systems are totally not going to happen. It seems that brita has a good one, or aquasanas. Any input? please? help!

Hi gfmelissa.

I too found that I was allergic to water - probably the chlorine in it as I get the same type of reaction if I go swimming in pools with too much chlorine.

I use a Brita water filter. It isn't really a cheap option because the filters that have to be renewed every month are expensive - but needs must. I can't drink tap water anyway, without terrible headaches and sore red eyes. The Brita makes all the difference.

I'm really not sure if it is connected with the celiac condition but the problem seemed to start about the same time as the celiac symptoms did 25 years ago (and I was diagnosed only 8 weeks ago!)

All the best to you -

Thanks for the help. I too have quite the reaction in swimming pools. Horrible rash. Anyways, I was reading that hte 'aquasana' filter is more expensive than brita (114$ compared to 39$), but you only replace the filters every six months. Has anyone tried or used this brand?

Thanks, melissa

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
