hi, Has anyone found something to help with this? either RX or OTC..I tried Reglan, but it made me feel worse, about 8 times out of 10 after I eat [1-3 hours] it feels like I ate a rock, the pain and heavyness is right in the middle of my gut, the food just sits there..drives me crazy, if I eat a meal at noon I can't eat dinner, still full and hurting.

any ideas?

thanks

I have gastroparesis too. Reglan basiclly made me feel suicidel. it was aweful. And I only took it for two days!I think there is a drug called ZelNorm. It is for people with IBS, but my gastro doc said they often perscribe it for gastroparesis too. I have never taken it, so i can't help you there. but maybe you can ask your doctor about it.

I just try and eat small meals, with a lot of water. A lot of times gastroparesos can be caused by too little stomach acid- but normal MD's won't tell you that. You might want to try some apple cider vinegar or HCL tabs. Just make sure you stomach lining is healed!

thank you for the reply and help, my heartburn is so bad, I can feel the burning on my tongue  I eat rolaids, no help..baking soda was helping till I broke out in hives and almost stopped breathing..salt allergy!!

I'll go try some apple cider..what is HCL?

btw..I started with a new gasto this week, told her i've tried ever PPI on the market with no help, they actually made the heartburn worse, every other DR told me this is not possible, but she did say some ppl do get worse from them!

thank you again

hello betty,

I have tried many PPI's too, and they either did nothing, or made my heartburn worse! I have recently---like last week, discoverd I have been having intolernaces to other food as well as gluten :(. I have been researching up a storm and found that the reason for my gastritis and gastroparesis could be caused by other food intolerances, and other food intolerances can make your stomach not produce enough acid- leading to gastoparesis because the food does not have enough acid to digest it properly. that way it justs sits there and hurts! i feel you pain!!! I feel like the PPI's did not work because it is making the acid your stomach even less than it already was... makeing my heartburn worse, and allowing my food to sit in my stomach longer.

I am much more into holistic approaches than taking pills, so that is why i have not tried zelnorm. HCL is a suppliement that contains HCL(hyrochloric acid- the acid your stomach produces) and it can help suppliment your loss of HCL. it comes in 100mg to 650mg tablets. I would say start out slow... taking 100-200mgs at first right before each meal, and then increase it with each meal until you feel warmth in you tummy. the warmth means that you have a little too mcuh acid. Apple cider vinegar works the same way. I would mix a little bit. like 1 tsp--- and work your way up, a bit of water and take it with a straw as it can damage some peoples teeth. But before you do any of this you need to make sure your stomach lining is healed. if you have gastritis like I do, it could make you even worse!

You might want to check into other intolerances... my heartburn ha gotten much better over the past few days since I cut some more foods out of my diet. i'm also going to get an ELISA test done to see for sure what else my body reacts to.

thank you so much for the great reply, I had a RAST test, no food allergies [besides the salt in lg doses] but many intolerances.

I'm going for a colonoscopy and the test with the camera down my throat into belly in a few weeks.

do you get a terrible "deep down" type of pain in the middle right between the ribs?

I just took a little apple cider a few minutes ago, I will stick with that to see if it helps, if it does I guess I should order some HCL..I agree, would much rather go with the holistic approache than another Med from my DR.

I went to a cookout at my moms today, hubby cooked me a all-natural, no nitrate, preservative free burger, found I can't eat red meat with all the crap they inject, so only meat from whole foods and I made an awesome flourless chocolate cake..normally I stay away from chocolate and foods with butter, but I ate a piece  think thats what may have done me in, possibly the gluten-free roll too..as you said we need to constantly check for other food intolerance'sand now I seem to be having trouble with gluten-free Breads, I think they;re too heavy for my belly.

thank you again, I appreciate the help and support!

hugs Betty

I'm glad to help!

I get heartburn that goes up into my mouth sometimes and makes my voice 'feel' rhaspy, but people say it doesn't sound it. I aldo get intense pressure right above the X-something(that bone at the end of your sternum) and a burning pain. I then also get this weird sideache pain on my left side that feels up under my ribs. yuck!

They found out I had gastroparesis after finding food in my stomach on my last biop. Then they did thing with a huge gigercounter.

I hear that it can go away perminetly as long as you address the issue and cause, not the symptoms. So I hope you and I get better!

ebrbetty Rising Star

thank you again, we seem to have the same miserable symptoms, I hope we both feel better very soon!!

happy 4th of july

hugs Betty

Welcome to the forum, @Ben98! If you have been consciously or unconsciously avoiding gluten because of the discomfort it produces then it is likely that your blood antibody testing for celiac disease has been rendered invalid. Valid testing requires regular consumption of generous amounts of gluten. The other strong possibility is that you have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) which shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease but does not have the autoimmune component and thus does not damage the small bowel lining. It is 10x mor common than celiac disease. There is currently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. Some experts in the field believe it can be a precursor to the development of celiac disease. Having one or both of the primary genes for developing celiac disease does not imply that you will develop active celiac disease. It simply establishes the potential for it. About 40% of the population has the genetic potential but only about 1% develop active celiac disease.

TTG blood test and total IGA tested on many occasions which have always remained normal, upper GI pain under my ribs since 2022. I had an endoscopy in 2023 which showed moderate gastritis. no biopsy’s were taken unfortunately. genetic test was positive for HLADQ2. extreme bloating after eating gluten, it’ll feel like I’ve got bricks in my stomach so uncomfortably full. the pain is like a dull ache under the upper left almost like a stitch feeling after a long walk. I am just wanting some advice has anyone here experienced gastritis with a gluten issue before? thank you

"Conclusions: The urinary iodine level was significantly lower in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, and iodine replacement may be important in preventing osteoporosis"  Body iodine status in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis Low iodine can cause thyroid problems, but Iodine deficiency will not show up in thyroid tests.  Iodine is important for healing, its job is to kill off defective and aging cells (Apoptosis). Skin, brain fog, nails, muscle tone all inproved when I started taking 600 mcg (RDA 150 - 1000 mcg) of Liquid Iodine drops. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis, Iodine exacerbates the rash.  I started at 1 drop (50 mcg) and worked up to 12 drops, but I don't have dermatitis herpetiformis.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶
