I had a blood test done about a year ago, so I know I'm gluten/wheat intolerant. I also know I have a not so bad intolerance to lactose. I used to get panic/anxiety attacks quite often when I didn't know I was GI, probably because I was always eating gluten. Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible for me to be allergic/intolerant to anything else because I still get panic attacks (and I'm pretty sure that's a symptom) but not as often. What are the symptoms of other intolerances such as corn, rice? ...ummm i can't think of any others.

Thanks,

Ellen

You could be reacting to other foodstuffs that you have intolerances to. But have you checked to make sure you are not getting any hidden gluten in your diet? Check your processed foods, salad dressings, etc. Also check to make sure you are not having cross contamination issues. If there are gluten eaters in your house, then make sure you have separate dishes, butter, toaster, etc for your non gluten items. Make sure that if you go out to eat, to figure out what they are serving you to make sure you're not accidentally glutened. A pain, I know...but these could still cause your symptoms.

You can also have Enterolab test to see if there is still gluten in your system...

Just a start. I'm sure others will have even better advice than I! This is a great resource. :D

I don't think you'd need separate dishes (as long as they're not wood, scratched up plastic, or unsealed ceramic).

I make sure to check everything. I know almost all the forbidden foods/additives by heart and I know most of the things gluten can be hidden in. BUT..vinegar. Do you know if it's safe? What about distilled or white wine vinegar? I've been having honey-dijon dressing on my salads for almost a week now.

Ingredients:

water, sugar, cultured buttermilk, canola oil, dijon mustard (distilled vinegar, mustard seed, salt, water, white wine, citric acid, turmeric, tartaric acid, spices), cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, honey, salt xanthan gum, maltodextrin, modified corn starch, lemon juice concentrate.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the vinegars.

What's an Enterolab test?

Cider & white wine vinegar (with no additives) are for sure okay, since no grain is involved. There's dispute about the distilled grain (white) vinegar, though most folks can tolerate it, some can't. Malt vinegar is definitely out. Flavored vinegars are iffy. I just found out that some "Balsamic" vinegars are flavored so read the label. The pure Balsamic from Modena is okay, & the really expensive ones, but some of the cheaper ones are flavored. Rice vinegar (unflavored) is okay.

As the distilled vinegar in your dressing is just from the mustard, there is probably only a tiny amount in there, so unless you are super-sensitive I'd say it's probably safe.

That's helpful. Thanks =)

You might want to eliminate all dairy products, egg whites, yeast, casein, whey, modified food starch and maltodextrin. Those are what I've learned I'm unable to tolerate over the past few years. Welda Lou

=( that means I could only have fruits, veggies, and meat w/o any bbq sauce (i can't have bbq sauce anyway though)...I'd be super limited. I'll try it and see how i feel.

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works

So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
