Have You Consulted A Dietician For Help?

Now that I am gluten and casein free and have to watch sugar, I was thinking how nice it would be to have someone who crunches serving size and nutrient numbers together to make an eating plan for me. I'm doing okay right now, but not much variety. I have thought about seeking a dietician but wanted to see if it was worth my time or not. Have any of you had a positive experience with one?

Thanks!

Sarah

I had a positive experience with one but it's pretty uncomon to find one who knows more about gluten than you do. My support group leader referred mine to me and she happend to be an ex-chef who used to teach gluten free cooking lessons at Kroger so that's why she knew all about what we could and could not have. Good luck but I'd ask a lot of questions before making an appt. with anyone. I spent $100 for a 1.5 hour session and it was a great investment for me. But one person I was going to see cost $225 for same time and she probably would not have been as helpful. Most insurance companies won't cover nutritionists visits. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about that.

My gastroenterologist referred me to the hospital's registered dietician. My first consult is next Tuesday. Things have stabilized since going on the diet, but I'd like some advice on how to gain back some weight quickly. I have every reason to believe that this will be covered by insurance.

Let us know how your visit with the dietician goes. If it turns out to be really helpful, I will definitely try to meet with one.

This is kind of what I have been suspecting. It would be great if I could find a dietician who specializes in food intolerances. Thanks,

We just saw one this past Monday that my son's GI recommended. She was extremely helpful, but I hear that is not the norm. This specific woman has been dealing with the gluten-free diet for 20 years. She is very knowledgeable.

I did see a dietician when I first went gluten-free, she happened to be the one who figured out the whole gluten intolerance/Celiac thing with me. She was very helpful, too, and actually recommended that I speak with the woman we just saw on Monday!

I would just make sure the one you choose is familiar with the type of diet you need help with.

Good luck!

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
