Blue Cheese

Over the last year or two I have gotten so much info and I don't think I am as strick as I should. I read somewhere else on the board that Blue Cheese is NOT gluten-free. Is this true for all and dressing too? I eat it all of the time.

Thanks

Lisa

I am not sure about the dressing. I know that that cheese is not gluten-free because it usually is made with a bread core. I would think if the dressing has it that it may not be safe. However, the best thing to do is contact the company directly asking if that specific dressing is gluten-free. That's always the best way to find out!

We just discussed this somewhere here -- or maybe it was at another forum. It is NOT true that all blue cheese is started on bread -- in fact in the U.S. most is not started on bread. That blue cheese would be gluten-free. Boar's Head is gluten-free. The blue cheese used at Outback is gluten-free. Several dressings are gluten-free. But you do have to call the manufacturer.

There's also serious question about whether you could even measure the gluten content of blue cheese started on bread (probably less than 1 ppm).

Yes, any kind of Blue Cheese made from moldy bread has gluten--one of the many things that made me sick before my bloodwork came back was Blue Cheese dressing.
